So, thanks to an action started under George W aegis, and continued under this administration, I can no longer play poker online This includes the dropzone.com games we used to have on Poker Stars.

Money laundering charges have been brought against the owners of several high profile poker sites, including Poker Stars. Why money laundering ? Because the owners are not US residents, and it's a charge that a case for extradition can be made for.

So, here's the idiocy of this. I'm a grown man with my own money, who can get in my car and drive ten minutes to the local card room and play poker for money legally all day, but I can't do it in my home any longer.

Don't we have better things to care about ?

America no longer has actual left/right politics although the labels are retained for marketing purposes and to distract people from the real issue which is both parties passing laws and policies which enrich profitable industries at the citizens' expense.

Protecting profits at brick-and-mortar casinos who may establish on-line presences has more to do with the clamp down on off-shore poker than imposing morality on you.

Real health care reform would be opening Medicare (with overhead costs of 3% versus 12% for private insurance) to everyone and establishing not-for-profit health care facilities as government sponsored enterprises. Instead we got a plan which requires everyone to buy private insurance which must cover more than existing low-cost plans and forces insurance companies to charge the youngest and fittest at least 1/3 what they do the unhealthy and elderly. That sort of reform should do wonders for the health insurance companies' bottom line.

sure we still have left/right. How many union hats do you see on GOP members on Congress? How many openly anti choice members in the Democratic caucus. Any Republican who dares to suggest a tax as an answer is labeled a RINO on the spot. And can any of them speak out against war, as the peaceniks on the left will?

If fixing health care was easy, it would have happened a long time ago. No matter the solution, there will be winners and losers, and both have clout to lobby for their desired outcome. So you get exceptions* galore until the entire goal has been missed, or enough just say no and remain with the status quo. With the majority of voters still well covered by employer plans, there's a lot of political pressure that prevents success.

*and the exceptions in this particular bill were pretty offensive. Why do union members get different treatment than others?
