Update 1:43 EST: Giffords name and disrict were one of those "targeted" by Sarah Palin's political action committee in 2010. Giffords' district was targeted and put in crosshairs, literally, on the Palin PAC website.

The work of a right wing nutjob, perhaps?

How about just a nutjob?

Your post was predicted that is for sure[:/]

Well, it could have been a left wing nutjob, since she was vocal about restricting immigration.

Obviously it was a politically motivated killing. Palin was criticized for potentially inciting violence with her targeted cross hairs imagery. Now one of her "targets" has been shot in the head.

Not a far reach to assume it was a right wing nutjob that pulled the trigger.

You don't joke about guns at airports and you don't joke about guns with politicians.

This was beyond Palin's comprehension.

Bachman also spoke of "second amendment solutions"

Well, Obama urged latino voters to "punish our enemies", it was in Arizona and Giffords was for stronger borders - so, not a far reach to assume it was a left-wing nutjob that pulled the trigger.

As long as everyone is prematurely throwing out blame and ridiculous speculation how about: left-wing nutjob takes out dem congressman that is not "playing ball" believing it would automatically be blamed on a right-wing nutjob. 2 birds with one stone, so to speak. There are plenty of nutjobs on all sides to go around.

This is insane. Regardless of the motivation. She was there doing exactly what she was elected to do: listening to her constituents. I'll refrain from making comments about any political leanings or motivation of the shooter until solid information about that is available.

It's not like the tea baggers were displaying guns at rallies to protest Democratic members of Congress.

She si still fighting, according to Washington Post

This lady really was just doing her job.

And it's a really sad freaking commentary when within the first few minutes/posts, someone has to chime in with "it was a right wing nut job." Maybe it was. Maybe it was a left wing nut job. Maybe it wes a nutjob with no particular political views. Maybe it was, an independant political nutter. For fuck's sake, you have no idea what happened, and there are other things than spewing your false dichotomy, left vs right BULLSHIT.

Yeah, because all those right wing libertarian leaning gun rights activists really hate representatives who co-sponsor gun-rights legislation.

Can any of you do a little checking before spouting off at the mouth?

I mean, with five minutes of basic googling, who wouldn't think NRA folks want to use her for target practice. :S

No, what's bullshit is that the right wing of this country has been consistently ramping up the violent rhetoric for the last couple years. Bachman and Palin have been at the forefront of this movement along with Beck and Hannity.

Quote

RIGHT-WING VIOLENCE.... In light of the shootings at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in D.C. this afternoon, allegedly committed by white supremacist James Von Brunn, Matt Yglesias noted, "I hope that everyone who mau-maued the Department of Homeland Security for expressing concern about this kind of thing feel appropriately ashamed of themselves."

It's hardly an unreasonable point. Two months ago, Richard Poplawski, a right-wing extremist, allegedly gunned down three police officers in Pittsburgh, in part because he feared the non-existent "Obama gun ban." A few weeks ago, Scott Roeder, another right-wing extremist, allegedly assassinated Dr. George Tiller in Kansas. A few hours ago, Von Brunn, another right-wing extremist, allegedly opened fire at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

There are other recent examples that bear similar characteristics.

Of course, it could have been a left wing nutjob, but this is an internet forum, what else are we supposed to besides speculate??????

Rather than speculate blindly based on your own predjudices, you can at least look for basic facts before insinuating things. Or we can talk about it without coming to conclusions, and wait for facts to come out.

And the left wing has been consistently ramping up the violence - I refer you to SEIU terrorizing the banking execs, beating up old men passing out flags at a town hall meeting and biting off fingers.

That would be the same James Von Brunn whose writings showed extreme hatred for the 'neo-cons' (now WHERE have I heard that term bandied about, and by whom?) Bush and McCain, yes?
