WHY NO SALUTE BY OBAMA @ MoH CEREMONY?

>I thought we were to place our hand over our heart.

If you do that, you will be expressing contempt for America, for America’s traditions, and for Americans who respect those traditions. It would prove that you loathe this nation while simultaneously wishing to be loved by it, Messiah-like.

Or something like that.

Stop it Bill. This is serious business. :S

Respect should be earned by each person, it should not be sold as an obligation. And what one man finds worthy of respect, another man should have the right to disagree with. Many of the values I respect majority don't, and I'm okay with that- as it is a personal choice.

"When an insurgent force ambush split Specialist Giunta's squad into two groups, he exposed himself to enemy fire to pull a comrade back to cover. Later, while engaging the enemy and attempting to link up with the rest of his squad, Specialist Giunta noticed two insurgents carrying away a fellow soldier. He immediately engaged the enemy, killing one and wounding the other, and provided medical aid to his wounded comrade while the rest of his squad caught up and provided security. His courage and leadership while under extreme enemy fire were integral to his platoon's ability to defeat an enemy ambush and recover a fellow American paratrooper from enemy hands."

Yeah, what's to respect there... :S

I do not require anyone to earn my respect or courtesy. If I deny someone respect or courtesy, I view myself as disrespectful and discourteous. I have heard many people state that others have to earn their respect. I think those people see themselves as much more important than they likely are.

If you fail to show respect or courtesy to another, I do not look at the other as unworthy. I look at you as a person who has no respect for others.

+1

and thanks for your service!

H.R. 4986 [110th] was signed into law in 2008.

SEC. 594. CONDUCT BY MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES AND VETERANS
OUT OF UNIFORM DURING HOISTING, LOWERING,
OR PASSING OF UNITED STATES FLAG.
Section 9 of title 4, United States Code, is amended by striking
‘‘all persons present’’ and all that follows through the end of the
section and inserting the following: ‘‘all persons present in uniform
should render the military salute. Members of the Armed Forces
H. R. 4986—137
and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render
the military salute. All other persons present should face the flag
and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, or
if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and
hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Citizens
of other countries present should stand at attention. All such conduct
toward the flag in a moving column should be rendered at
the moment the flag passes.’’.

There is no political meaning to this post, just FYI.

I thought we were to place our hand over our heart.

That's what liberals do as a "nyeah nyeah" to taunt real Americans who want to give gun-o-phobes two to the chest. So when a liberal puts his hand over his chest during the National Anthem, he's really saying "fuck you". It's all a code.

I think they have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that many of them are very good at that whole bending over thing... after a bit of wide stance.... or toe tappin ... or preachin at their mega church.

The other part of the article seems to be inaccurate too.

"Obama and the medal recipients walked together toward a large flowered wreath, bearing the words, "Medal of Honor Day," that soldiers carried on a stand and placed between them and the Tomb. Obama then placed his hands on the wreath. As a drum roll began, and Taps was played, the president the four heroes placed their right hands on their hearts."

http://www.militaryinfo.com/news_story.cfm?textnewsid=2902

"President Ronald Reagan began the practice of saluting members of our armed forces in 1981. Such salutes are generally not rendered by one not in uniform, even active duty service members.

No American president before Reagan had ever returned a salute, including former five-star Army General Dwight D. Eisenhower."
http://www.military-money-matters.com/presidential-salute.html

A salute is a MILITARY sign of respect. Obama, while the commander in chief, is a CIVILIAN.

Military regulations appear to state that a salute is not required when one is wearing civilian clothes. Therefore, Obama would not be required to salute, but it appears that as CIC, he MAY salute if he chooses to do so, given the change in tradition made by Reagan. A while back, Obama was heavily criticized by Fox News and some military blogs for doing so during the arrival of a military casket. Perhaps he chose not to do so at this occasion in an attempt to avoid controversy at this important ceremony.

Frankly, I can't stand Obama, and I think he's one of the worst presidents we've had recently. That said, this is stupid. There are so many legitimate things to criticize him for I don't understand why people continue to make things up. It undermines the credibility of Obama's critics and causes people to stop listening.

Thanks for a logical and sensible post.

Perhaps more aptly: It is of a pathetic piece with Obama’s penchant for declining to abide by the U.S. Flag Code when the Flag passes to place his hand over his heart. Instead, he drapes his arms down and enfolds his hands at his crotch Michael Jackson-style. It is now mocked as Obama’s “crotch salute.” But it isn’t funny. It is contempt by Obama for the Flag, for America.

BTW, here's more information regarding the so-called "crotch salute". It had nothing to do with a failure to salute the flag. The "incriminating photo" that was passed around the internet was taken immediately after the president had entered on the stage to "Hail to the Chief". The people in the picture standing next to him were not saluting the flag (which is BEHIND them), they were saluting the president as he entered. The president saluting or placing his hand over his heart would have been inappropriate, as he would have been saluting himself. The civilian on stage is Arlington's superintendent John Metzler Jr., who has made it his own tradition to salute the president with his hand over his heart.

I've attached a before and after photo of the moment, where you can see Obama entering, and then standing during the rest of the song.

The second picture is Obama at the Tomb of the Unknowns during a ceremony later in the year.

The third photo is the one everyone's making a fuss about.

And here's a link to a Life Magazine article showing Obama with his hand over his heart on the same day the FIRST photo was taken.

Do you want that VERY VERY long list of repubiclowns that are family values challenged yet again???

It seems that in the GOP over the last 30 years a hell of a lot of turds have risen to the top of the cesspool to float on what once was a great party[:/][:/][:/]

Thank you.

Damn, we Tea Party people have to find better examples. [:/]

Nah, you should just keep making stuff up. It works out better, you and everyone who perpetuates this foolishness just look silly and petty. The more you do it the better since it just means fewer and fewer people will believe anything that you say. I bet he salutes his own flag, the flag of Kenya of course. Ooooh, theres a good one, why don't you guys photoshop a picture of him saluting the Kenyan flag. That should cause all kinds of indignant outrage amongst the sheep. Hey it could probably be worth a few million in donations to the Republican party from all of the other's that believe everything that the talking heads tell them to believe.

No thanks, I've had all the insulting and PA-ish type of party posts I can tolerate.

They are quite nonsensical honestly. Plenty of us simply don't stoop that low. It doesn't show the poster in a good light when they makes posts such as that.
