So do we give credit to the Obama administration, which was in office, what like five months, and had passed no major legislation? Or are we going to admit that Bush didn't cause it (since it had been brewing for fifteen or so years before it happened) and Obama didn't solve it?

The number of unemployed remains staggering. They're not earning; they're not spending; their families are suffering; many have given up hope of finding anything and are beyond despair. And for most of them, by now, their unemployment comp has run out, too. For them it most definitely is not over.

I've seen more stores and auto dealerships closed and boarded-up now than ever before in my 50+ years of life.

I've also noticed a phenomenon in supermarkets. It used to be, the lowest-priced item in category sold out first, and then the other same-category items would start getting picked off. And I could usually find a few "on sale" items still on the shelves. Nowadays, as often as not, there's a gaping, empty space on the shelf where the lowest-priced item sold out really fast, while the other like items are completely stocked up- no gaps. In other words, people are either buying the very lowest-priced items on the shelves, or if the low item is sold out, they're not buying at all.

Scholarly analyses be damned; the real world tells me the recession is very much still on.

The chart on the website is a graph of
the simple four-week moving average of initial jobless claims. That is the basis for the analysis.

The "initial jobless claims" have stabilized.
That does not state that a recession is ending, merely
that it has bottomed-out. The number of new people
being laid off has stabilized.

A recession is over when the economy recovers, not merely
when it plateaus at the bottom.
So, we have interpretation of a graph.

Remeber, by definition the recession is over as soon as GDP begins to rise. The switch is at the top and bottom, not the median baseline. So the recession is "over" the moment it hits rock bottom. We can't, don't, and shouldn't judge by when things get back to "the way they were." it's too much of a moving target.

Things are improving but still in the shitter. So do we escape the swirly, or do we go down the tubes.

Economies are cyclical. Anyone old enough to have experienced a few recessions would know this. I was a young adult right out of school when we went through the recession of the early 80s. Unemployment was even higher than this recession. But there is a difference. Manufacturing and many other industries still operated in North America back in the 1980s. So the recovery was strong when it did happen. I don't know what the future holds for us, my crystal ball was made in China and lately it has been oozing some toxic sludge from it. Unless society finds some way to put people back to work, we are all in for some big changes. I will be losing my job in a few months from now (LOL I was supposed to lose it last May, but I keep getting life line extensions). But right now finding a replacement does not look very good. Seems all the jobs in my field have left the country. So I may need to think about a new career soon.

I am not sure a life of crime in the USA is such a good idea (since the USA actually punishes it's criminals), but I tell you, a life of crime up here in "Hug a Thug" Canuckistan is starting to look better and better every day. Your lack of income opportunities are only limited by your imagination and your lack of motivation to prey on the weak and defenseless unarmed lemmings. You don't have to pay income tax on your income and you can collect government welfare checks to subsidize your beer and drug habits. Best of all, if you do get caught you don't really need to worry about spending too much time in the Club Med slammer as you await your trial and sentence. You get to live rent free for a few months, and then the Liberal judge gives you a hug, some lolly pops, a teddy bear and sentences you to go home under house arrest.

Yup criminals of the world, come to Canada!!! Here you will be welcomed with open arms and you never need to worry about any damn stinking recessions. Why I spent all these years obeying the law is beyond me. Talk about being dumb and losing out on a life time opportunity to make some serious tax free income. :)

do they have skydiving while incarcerated up in the great white north ?

To my knowledge there are no prison DZs. But you are missing my point. See here you will only be incarcerated for a few days (say Monday through Thursday) and then you will be released for the weekend to go jump or better yet go commit your next crime. I tell you it is the career choice of the future up here. Unless of course you happen to land a choice "for life" job in the public civil service complete with it's generous tax payer paid pensions. :o

I'm sure there's a "Mission Accomplished!" banner lying around someplace that they could use.

THAT was funny - I don't care how much you suck Obama's dick!
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

Ewww, that's icky.

I hope you meant that in a rhetorical sense, and am not implying that I would willingly associate with whatever category our Chief Executive is.

I will admit to being madly in love with one guy in particular, and hug and kiss him lots. He is 104 days old today, and I adore him.
