Shotgun 1 #30 July 13, 2010 QuoteChild porn. My first tendency here is to agree with you. And if the book contained actual photographs of child porn, where a child was obviously harmed to take the photo, then absolutely it should be banned. But if it was only written word, then I'd have a hard time agreeing to ban that, even though I find it to be disturbing.
jakee 1,241 #31 July 13, 2010 QuoteSerious answer: None. Not a single one. If you consider the types that want to ban stuff, they always want to control how you think. Indeed. And if they're being serious, the guys wanting to ban religious books should stop and think about the irony of their suggestions. QuoteThey claim to be "protecting the children" or to be "offended" or "insulted" by the books, but mainly they want to stop people from getting ideas they don't like. The American Library Association's banned books lists is an excellent insight into the mindset of the book-banning type. It's a fair bet that any classic, thought provoking piece of literature is high up on the list. (Yep, including Fahrenheit 451. Fascinatingly, the publishers of F451 had also, over the course of several editions, gradually edited out some 'offensive' language and passages from the book! The text was quickly restored once this was pointed out to Bradbury.)Do you want to have an ideagasm?

But if it was only written word, then I'd have a hard time agreeing to ban that, even though I find it to be disturbing. I think I could agree to that, too - not written words, but pictures & videos. Reason being, children are either essentially forced into modeling for pornography, or lack sufficient mature judgment or power to choose No and make it stick. Thus, as far as I'm concerned, pictorial child porn is per se unduly exploitive; the child models are the victims, and thus it's reasonable to enact bans to restrict supply (and if possible, demand). wmw999 2,090 #33 July 13, 2010 What's your feeling about using CG to make child porn? Personally, it's appalling and troubling. In part because I find it repellent, but I really can't find a way for it to be illegal if it's truly CG. Boy howdy we can stretch the definition of "future" can't we sometimes. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. As long as there isn't a real, live juvenile person sitting (or whatever) as a model, then No. My point was solely to avoid victimizing actual juvenile models. Disturbing, appalling, troubling and so many other things. But as long as no real juveniles are involved in the production, then it shouldn't be banned."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." quade 3 #39 July 14, 2010 Quote Quote Quote Child porn. Its already banned John Then surely it doesn't exist anymore right? There are a couple of problems with John's answers. Although clearly his heart is in the right place, "child porn" is a concept and not a book, which is what the question asked. Further, even as a concept, "child porn" is difficult to define. Several pieces of literature involve the idea of sex with minors. "Lolita" immediately comes to mind. Would you ban that?quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
