tbrown 26 #51 June 9, 2010 Quote There are only few dozen offshore oil wells here in California mainly because every time they want to sink another one us "liberals" get up and vote against them. There are hundreds and hundreds of off shore oil wells in the Gulf. And now all you gun toting flag waving rednecks are crying the blues. "We've been fishermen for generations and we don't like big gov'er'ment," but now you've all got your hands out. "Cleaning up the oil is making me throw up, I need a check!" Well, cry me a frigging river tough guys. BP will certainly go bankrupt in the coming weeks but don't pine for them as they'll come back under another name. But I'll be damned if one dime of my tax money goes to bailing you morons out. You wanted to live by the drill so now you can die by the spill . . . So suck it up all you wannabe John Waynes - literally! NickD Honest to God Nick, are you really angry at EVERYONE ? Sure seems like it... Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! mnealtx 0 #54 June 16, 2010 Quote>How about a new federal law that says that each state must make do >with the oil they can produce from their own territory? Sure. Both California and Texas import about 15 billion dollars worth of crude oil a year, so I think you'd be hurtin' a bit. Per person you actually import a lot more than California does, so each person in Texas would have more to lose. But there are definitely alternatives to oil usage, and such a limit would encourage them rapidly. > Yeah, you guys like to talk about how "green" you are, while continuing > to suck up vast quantities of other people's oil. You're living in a liberal > weenie dream world... Perhaps - but it is the same one you are apparently living in. http://internationaltradecommodities.suite101.com/article.cfm/us-crude-oil-import-statistics-by-state According to the DOE, Texas produces 11.3 Trillion BTU per year in various products and consumes 11.5 Trillion BTU. Put up another reactor at Comanche Peak or the STP, a few more turbines at the Horse Hollow wind farm (largest in the world, btw, at 736 MW) and I think we'd be ok, especially since we'd end up being able to utilize all our natural gas production (30% of national total) after shutting down that LNG pipeline running to Cali.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. mnealtx 0 #55 June 16, 2010 QuoteLet's do the same with clean fresh water. Well, that'll certainly suck for Nevada, Arizona and California - don't they get a fair amount of water from rivers originating in other states? As for Texas, there's the Red, Rio Grande, Sabine, Neches, Trinity, San Jacinto, (Texas) Colorado, Guadalupe, San Antonio, Nueces, and Brazos Rivers, to name a few. I think we'll be ok there, too.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706

Sounds like a good plan. And if you run short of oil, you have all those coast beaches. Seeing as how Texas is the leading oil producer in the nation (except for the offshore areas) and produces 20% of the national output, I think we'll be ok, thanks. Cali better get to work on those solar plants, given their discrepency between output and consumption (2900 Trillion BTU and 8400 Trillion BTU, respectively). That's only going to get worse once that LNG pipeline from Texas shuts down, of course.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
