U.S. prepares to bomb Iran

Recommended Posts

It is pointless.

Nuclear nonproliferation is a failure. Iran will go nuclear. So Will syria, jordan, sudan and all of the other mudholes in the world that can afford to buy a russian general a new washing machine and refrigerator. A russian scientist smuggled HEU out of a processing plant he worked at, bit by bit in amounts as small as a gram for two years so he could sell it and pay for a new washing machine and fridge for his wife. He accumulated two pounds of HEU and was looking to sell it when he was busted by the russkies. It is just a game of delaying the inevitable.

Al Qaida will go nuclear. If they need a good working diagram the plans are available via wikipedia for a crude gun type bomb using 64 kilos of HEU. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Boy Accept it. They have been working on it for ten years. They will attack one if not more american cities eventually, like they said in fight club, the longer down the time scale you go, the probability of survival drops to zero for everybody. If you think they wont eventually go nuclear and attack us then you should go work with the visionaries in the pentagon that never imagined that they would use planes. ;)

There will be more terrorist groups popping up. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5889435 They will become more sophisticated in their planning and communications (facebook, twitter, utube, myspace)

They are the Crips and Bloods of the middle east. If we cant get rid of gangs in the inner city in Dallas and LA how are we supposed to get rid of networks based in countries where the ethnicity is different, the culture is different, and it is practically impossible for the CIA to infiltrate. there is no way to destroy the network unless you do the redneck thing and just kill everybody and let god sort em out. ;)

When you think about it, the middle east has some of the poorest people on the planet, and bin laden has had a $50,000,000 price on his head for like ten years, and he is treated like a hero everywhere he goes. These people think differently than us, they have different motivations and arent going to drop the dime on him.

Everybody in the power elite realizes this. If we bomb iran then all they do is ramp up their centrifuges and start passing HEU to AlQaida. All they need to take out all the lobbyists in Washington is about 50 kilos. Diplomacy and putting the economic thumbscrews are the only way to ensure that Iran doesn't have a bomb *for a few years*. The best way to do this is to keep them at the poker table and let the IAEA do inspections of their reactors/nuke facilites. All we do by bombing Iran is starting another war we cant win in a country we can't hold, blocking US personnel from accessing critical sites. It may even be said that Iran could go nuclear sooner if they didnt have to stay at the poker table talking. ;)

Like I said tho. Do you hear that Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability.

You bring up some very good points and facts I must say. The only concern I have is the Inspectors.... They haven't worked in the past so what would change that now?

UN weapons inspectors were working fine in Iraq. It's unfortunate that the US did not give them time to finish their job before unnecessarily invading the country.

They haven't worked in the past?
SkyChimp, are you aware that in Iraq the inspectors said Saddam wasn't working on nucleur weapons and he didn't have them?
Or are you still waiting on that particular "mushroom cloud"?

Working fine would mean a history where they didn't encounter armed soldiers whenever they stumbled upon more interesting buildings. On several occasions it was necessary to threaten military action, and eventually Clinton did in fact launch such a strike.

So if "fine" is the equivalent of a released felon skipping every 3rd week with his parole officer, sure.

"Fine" being the equivalent of the weapons inspectors saying Iraq didn't have weapons while Iraq actually had no weapons.

If you think killing innocent people with the same cuture as those that you are trying to rid yourself of, will help your cause?

Then you are an idiot!

Many people would support the telaban, alqueda and any other such organisation through the propoganda they would be giving the people around them. The use of heave force against innocent victims, by the supposed 'good guys' only enforces the beleifs of those that follow such organisations.

If they saw peace and resolution in the actions of those that are supposed to be helping them, they would be more inclined to point the finger at the true 'bad guys', but if you only destroy their very existance into turmoil, they will see you as the bad guy. Pretty basic stuff really, but when you head is full of anxiety...

The redneck way has proved itself over and over again to be more of a burden than a resolution yet you still cling on to you desire to be that way.

Quite foolish indeed!

I respectfully disagree with you. Clinton tried to get them in there for 5 years while Saddam played games.

Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

So, you're saying the weapons inspectors were wrong, and Iraq did have WMD?

He's saying it could not be safely concluded. It was clear all along that Iraq was trying to hide things. Had Saddam not behaved that way so often, it would have been much harder for Bush to promote the war.

It could have been successfully concluded. Iraq was cooperating at the time of the invasion. We now know that the only thing Saddam was trying to hide was the fact that he had no WMD.

I dont at all agree with the invasion of Iraq, and I didnt even at the time, but I also dont agree that all he had to hide was "the fact that he didnt have WMD" The war in Iraq was either a schoolboy response or something a little deeper than what the "majority" knows. The news doesnt report everything, just everything they know (ideally)... but, again, I dont agree with the decision at all but also submit that maybe I dont know all the facts.

Let me reiterate, either way I believe peace is the only way to world peace... this type of terrorism cannot be stopped with Geneva war tactics... however, the important role of educating and building schools in a secure environment is vital to an evolution of change within the borders of these countries. Kill one and another 12 are bred... free the minds, and the rest (may) follow.

It was not in Saddam's best interest to allow other countries to realize how weak Iraq was militarily. He had no real alternative to playing a game of cat and mouse with weapons inspectors to allow the possibility that he be perceived as having and hiding weapons.

What kind of terrorism would that be?
