I actually think that this is a very interesting phenomenon, possibly a cultural throwback to the stifling "man want sex=good / woman want sex = despicable" Victorian era.

Another poster said that he thought the word was 'vile'. Really? Has anyone ever heard a word that referred to the penis which was vile? Dick, cock, johnson, purple headed womb-ferret... they're all just kinda funny. But make it slang about a vagina and all of a sudden it's vile. It's quite strange.

marc, that word doesn't have the same horrible connotation in other countries as it does here. spend a week in britain and you'll hear it a lot. Heck, it doesn't even specifically target women, IIRC.

I grew up in the UK, trust me, I would say asshole in front of my mother but I would never say the C word. I don't know where you grew up in England or where you visited but your view does not represent the entire country at all. You could get yourself in almost as much trouble as you would if you use the word Fanny there.

Forgive for saying it but I find that article BS. They used to have lax enlistment standards but with the economy the way it is plenty of qualified people are joining allowing the army to be more selective.

I'm too lazy to go find an article stating this but it's the truth. The number of waviers they are approving has gone way down.

IMO the picture isn't putting black people in a negative context, rather it is making a joke of the color of their skin. Much like you could make a joke about rednecks and duct tape, or mexicans eating beans and rice. These aren't attacks on a race, just observing traits and making jokes about it. This is not to say whether the joke is or is not in bad taste, just the principal.


Here is an honest to god story: I was at a party once where the only light in the room was a black (UV) light, emitting very little light to see by. All of a sudden, this white T shirt comes around the corner and floats into the room. For a second it really was tripping me out, but I realized after a moment that it was a black person. This was quite comical to me at the time, although I wasn't shouting out what I saw so as not to offend the guy or anybody else. Does this make me a racist because I found that the color of someones skin provided me with a laugh? I think not.

I agree with you. If a President would have a skin condition like scars left from acne, I am sure lots of jokes would be made about that.
