Ugali 0 #1 April 15, 2009 To those in the United States: has the media driven paranoia about terrorists changed in the US since Obama was elected? From what i could tell from the world news during the bush era seems that the media was detemined to milk every single posible terrorist related activity, no matter how minor or far fetched the incident. I'm not 100% certain you understand how the media works in the US. If the Department of Homeland Security were to say virtually anything about terrorists; good, bad or whatever, then the media, pretty much would have to report on it. Not out of some government mandate, but out of fear that the other guy would report on it and they had not. This is why so much of the news in the US is so homogenized; many media outlets all pretty much obligated to report on stuff they "think" the other guy is going to report on. During the 43rd Administration, they played the media like a harp from hell. The DHS raised and lowered the threat level is a strange synchronicity every time the Administration had some issue they needed to bury behind it. Since the 44th Administration has come in, the DHS hasn't changed the status a single time. If they don't say anything, there's less to really report. Besides which, we have our heads up our asses with this whole economy thing.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

That's decreasing a bit just due to terror fatigue; people are sick of hearing about it. I don't think it's closely related to who the president is (although this administration may have less to gain by generating fear.)

grimmie 179 #6 April 15, 2009 Now the terrorist threats are coming from the news people themselves. Guys like Rush, Hannity and Beck are stirring up the "Obama is going to take your guns and make you goose step to socialism" pot. The Republicans knew that the scare tactics would keep GWB in office for a second term. Now they have to make Obama look scary to win the next one. The unfortunate reality is that whatever "real" threats are known, those probably do not get reported with regularity. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! billvon 2,779 #8 April 15, 2009 > It's just about the economy and not terrorists. Right; that's what I meant. This administration does not have a quagmire of a war to justify. They do, however, have a very big stimulus package to justify.
