Will Bush go down in history as worst president ever?

Recommended Posts

I think not. As a military person w/ 20 years in, I know that he hasnt made the best decisions throughout the 8 years, but I still support him because he is the commander in chief. I would much rather have him as a president than that lying SOB Clinton! Bush was up front w/ the public and did his best during a tumultuous time in our nations history. A president is only as good as his staff and the congress allow him to be! Plus we got to wipe a bunch of terrorists off the planet, which makes it all worthwhile. I would much rather fight them over there than in my country!

He's in the bottom 25%, but there were much worse presidents. Grant was a drunken screw-up, and Clinton put his own wants and image above the nations good.

You're so right! The honesty of Bush is remarkable, and with all the terrorists we've now killed...well, what is there left to say? Mission accomplished right?

I read an interesting article yesterday (I think on CNN.com), about how the perception of a president varies with time. It mentioned how Truman was considered as one of the worst president ever in 1952, yet is now seen in a different light. Reagan's reputation is probably better than it was in 1988, when he was gaffe prone and seen as being controlled by his entourage.
Bush's legacy may vary depending on what happens in the next 10 to 15 years in Iraq and the Middle East. He also was faced, as the article mentioned, with events unlikely to hit most presidents (9/11, Katrina, the financial crash).
My take is that he made some poor decisions, but some of the events which happen on his watch can not be fully blamed on him. But one of his administration's greatest downfall, in my opinion, was its lack of analysis of situations prior to action, and its inability to "package" some of its action.

You can't ask for a simple yes/no when you poorly defined the question.

Many here are judging worst ever based on their personal beliefs rather than a look at the effectiveness. Even if you're a hardcore John Bircher, you can't rank Clinton as the worst ever. Even if you're a member of the Peace and Freedom Party, you can't say the same of Reagan. By any objective measure, each are in the upper half at the very least.

The candidates for the worst are the ones that died just after entering office. Behind them, you have candidates like Carter and Bush (Jr) who were extremely ineffective in a trying time.

So yes, it's simple, the answer is no. Lousy, sure. Worst ever, nope.

It will and it is not all his fault either. I think there is alot going on that we are not being told. I have had 5 soldiers come home from Iraq to my church and tell of all the good things we are doing there. All the media tells us is all the gloom and doom stuff. Bush said in the beginning of that war that it would be long and hard road to walk on. and it has been just that and other shit happened that we did not anticipate. I.E. we thought it would become stable and it hasnt, insurgents continue to resist becoming united etc etc. (I know someone would have asked me to elaborate) Mortgage failure and loans that should not have been made came to a head in his presidency. Many are living beyond their means and the blame is falling on him. I dont think he had a pass or veto on those loans. I dont think the guy has a flippen clue how to fix the recession problem or even his own problems and he is relying on his staff members to pull a rabbit out of the hat. He came into the presidency with good intentions, and he is leaving with a mess that he did not have all the doing in. I have to accept my responsibility in this too. I dont own a home ( thank God) but I do have my cc balances pretty high because I live beyond my means, and I have no savings. That is my OWN fault. I voted for Obama. I want to see change come in many areas of government in this country. Not saying that other messes arent going to creep up on Barak too, I am having faith that he knows enough to be better prepared to deal with it and that the staff he appoints will be better equipped to deal with each situation as is comes. This country is treading on unknown territory, so lets move forward and in the famous words of HOOKNSWOOP - DON'T PANIC-THINK-Caress

PS it is okay to think I am an idiot, that is the spirit of SC. Carry on-

there is alot of good that bush has done in his 2 terms, to bad people only get the bad news from the press. so no bush isn't the worst president, not even in the botom 25%. any president in this time would have had similar results. the things that bush couldn't control in his 8 years like katrina, rita, tech buble crash, and 911 are all huge events that would have made almost any president look bad.

I know such a shame that the slaughter of countless innocent kids came out in the press... if only he could have kept that a secret - the man's a twat.

I think its funny how people from other countries think they can comment with intelligence about another world leader (excuse me, THE world leader, since every other country is a second world country). Maybe it's their own socialistic country that pisses them off and inspires such hatred. We as the US give billions of $ away each year and yet the rest of the world still slanders us. Piss on them all. And the fact that someone from the UK can comment with such vehemanance pisses me off to no end. If it wasnt for the US they would be speaking German!

Thats just my 2 cents!

If anything, I wouldnt want anything withheld from the press. I do not like the reality that countless innocent lives are being lost either. He is not the only president that has happend under, but I am hoping and praying he will be the last. As much as that sounds like wishful thinking. -Caress

nope...In my lifetime so far, I'm gonna say Bill Clinton. He's the one that got the economy messed up. He got it going in that direction. And he looked America in the eye and said and I quote " I did not have sexual relations with that woman".

We'll never know - we'll be dead.

You might want to watch the series "The Presidents" and see if it jives with what you thought about the others.

Yeah, it's not as if there's some kind of global information network that lets people from all over the world access the same news and information as people in any other country. That'd be stoopid.

Oh well, if he's THE world leader then we've got just as much right to comment as you.

There is nothing funny about a country that can find 10 billion a month for a war built on a false premise (weapons of mass destruction) but cannot find the money to have univerdsl health care Something we in Aust had had since 1975. (Costs me around $700 per year in taxes) " Oh but you cannot let the government run health care "... better to have insurance companies that make obscene amounts of money by providing the least amount of care as possible.(what about the sick people who cannot get insurance.) Yup the USA were great in WW2 but its been down hill ever since. Now borrowing money from China unbelieveable ! Its not slander its the facts. I hope Obama turns it around. its not pissing on you.. the fact that we live way better than most of your citizens. The USA is a great place for a holiday and the people are great but I am glad I do not live there.
I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

I love Australia, and its people. But I dont want the Govt tellng me that one of my family members cant have a life saving surgery because its too expensive. Also, with that type of medical care you get what you pay for. (or dont pay for in that matter) You can have that type of medcare. And not to get on a soap box, I believe your county and the UK doesnt allow handguns. Or at least the law-abiding citizens. Criminals still got them. The Govt can come get my guns from my cold dead hands. I like being able to defend myself.

Yep, Australia is a nice place to visit, but wouldnt want to live there either.
