Islamic Failure

Recommended Posts

Quite a good article written in 2002 for you all to enjoy, unless of course you've already read it.

Here's a couple of paragraphs:

"Although genuine scientific achievement is rare in the contemporary Muslim world, pseudo-science is in generous supply. A former chairman of my physics department in Islamabad has calculated the speed of heaven. He maintains it is receding from Earth at one centimetre per second less than the speed of light. His ingenious method relies upon a verse in the Islamic holy book, which says that worship on the night on which the book was revealed is worth a thousand nights of ordinary worship. He states that this amounts to a time-dilation factor of 1,000, which he puts into a formula of Einstein's theory of special relativity.

A more public example: One of the two Pakistani nuclear engineers who was recently arrested on suspicion of passing nuclear secrets to the Taleban had earlier proposed to solve Pakistan's energy problems by harnessing the power of genies. He relied on the Islamic belief that God created man from clay, and angels and genies from fire; so this high-placed engineer proposed to capture the genies and extract their energy."

If those are the sorts of secrets he is passing on to the Taliban, I say - excellent. Indeed, I would advocate that all extremist militant religious types educate themselves on the various 'silly sciences' in their religious text of choice, and then apply those principles in everyday life.

In many religious texts, for example, people can fly. Let's all hope for more militant extremist religious nuts who test that principle from the tops of buildings.

Sounds like a bloody good idea to me. GENIES!!! Why didn't I think of it first....Damn!
Look, I can't find any Genies, I wonder if Gnomes work just as well. I'll get started on it right away. This could be the breakthrough that mankind has been looking for, it could even stop global warming if we can get energy from Gnomes. It will save humanity.... Thats it, I'll call it the Human Gnome Project!

Amazing to me that many Americans laugh at their religious extremists ...yet want one of ours to share in running our govt. :S

:D:D

Gnomes!? I doubt they'd be of much use. Nasty little fuckers. My Mrs decided to put some in the garden. One evening staggering up the garden path I knocked one and broke it's head off, which at the time I found rather amusing - I popped the head on a bamboo cane and stuck it in the middle of the lawn.

They're malevolent little bastards. I look out the window now as I type, and I can see a couple staring in with their malice filled eyes.....

Everytime I move one, they keep coming back! Here's the evidence:

I'm not putting all my focus on what's crazy. I thought it was quite a good article. Essentially, if you read this thread you'll understand my drift a bit better.

It basically boils down to a few points regarding how the vast majority of Muslims believe in Creationism which I personally believe restricts they're social development in the modern world. Here's one of my posts:

"I pretty much agree; but there is something rather significant and disturbing about this. Islam, with it's creationist views, rarely acknowledges the theory of evolution, therefore cannot fully understand astronomy, anthropology, biology, geology, palaeontology, physics or zoology. So it's the social, political and cultural implications of such ignorance which is quite disturbing. Surely a society which does not promote specialists in these areas cannot expect to evolve into a competetive economy.

In rejecting all this, they believe it demonstrates moral superiority over degenerate Western values. But it's readily apparant they're rejecting science itself, which is going to really help their future generations."

People might think the biggest issue concerning Muslims to be the fundamentalists. I believe it goes deeper than that, as I've already alluded to.

I think you missing a huge point. The BIG difference in Islam is that Science is encouraged, as we do not look at the big bang theory or the complexities of life as an attack on our faith. Most that I have encountered believe it just shows Gods greatness. That’s why all sciences are thought in Iran an Islamic republic.

That’s just simply false.

Islam even in the very beginning was pro science and many of the big brake troughs of the past were achieved by Muslim scientist.

Many European scientist escape to Baghdad so they could practice their science without persecution.
Islam has always been a supporter of science.

That is historical fact here is some opinion

I think the biggest problem we have is the lack of separation of masque and state. Also oil was the biggest pitfall for the whole region. If for example Iran did not have oil there would not be so much international influence on the country. We would not have puppet government after puppet government to keep the people dumb and cooperative. The last 200 years have been horrible mainly because of western influence.

The significant and brilliant Islamic achievements in the past are not the topic here.

There are a few points you've said worthy of discusssion but I'll stick with one which interests me most, as the points I would have made kinda lead in this direction.

You state the last 200 years have been horrible through Western Influence in regards to oil.

Does this also apply to countries such as Iraq? Afghanistan? Egypt? Libya? Algeria? Indonesia? Saudia Arabia?

Are the main causes of Middle Eastern problems from the past 200 years caused by Western influence?

Is the leadership demonstrated by the House of Saud primarily caused through Western influence?

Are the Taliban and their ideals caused by Western influence?

Nonsense.

Having such a simplistic view could equally allow a Westerner to blame most of significant problems in the world today on Muslims....

What type of person would not fear someone with her attitudes and beliefs running the country?!?

There is no justifying Palin as fit for the position.

Previously I merely saw you as someone whose education, intellect and ability to perceive the world were all ...well, limited.

I continue to read your posts and I wonder, who would gleefully sacrifice their country just so your team could win? Is that what it is?!?!? How ....shallow.

A bit for column A and a bit from column B, me thinks.

Darius, you defend islam. Are you a muslim? If so, how does that jive with your signature line? Rock music, particularly of that variety, is surely a mortal sin for muslims..no?

No
I love it when someone thinks they know about Islam because they watched an episode of 24. Wanna tell me my faith again?

You think? maybe.

The Ghoran being song by a professional is some of the best music in the world in my opinion. That's my opinion not as a Muslim but as a musician it is simply beautiful.

Faith is very personal. I know many Christians who consider them selves christian yet they do not follow every thing they are told. So i am sure there are some Muslims who say no to western music but as a person you have to be smart enough to know what is being said out of ignorance and what makes sense for you.

To each person that is a personal decision. The reason i did not answer him is because his question is already answered. If i have lyrics that i like and i am a Muslim then obviously i don't have a problem with it, and any one who does can suck my big hairy camel cock.;)

I also have lost patience mainly because it seems we are attacked constantly about our faith. I don't feel the need to try to explain every thing to people who already assume they know all.

Maybe it was a genuine question, i guess the best answer is read it, live it and make up your own mind. I am no prophet

Darius.. you prove my point. You pick and choose what you believe. If you claim to be muslim, which you are not willing to do, any true muslim who lives by the koran would call you a fraud! Your ARE..or you ARE NOT! There is no MIDDLE ground. Make up your mind. For the record, I AM a Christian. I do not pick and choose which parts of the Bible I choose to believe. That is the difference.

Only seeing the world in absolutes and never changing which means never learning is a true sign of ignorance, nothing to be proud of.

Um, someone who's not, in general, fearful.
Someone who recognizes that the vice president does not wield the power of an emperor. I dunno. :S

I suppose it's either that team wins, or your cult wins.

What an obtuse remark. Very thinly-veiled, indeed.

I call BULLSHIT. So tell me when was the last time you stoned homosexuals to death? How are your slaves? I guess you don't eat pig meat either then? Or do you? Which bit did you choose to follow? There is nothing wrong with listening to music in the Koran. You really shouldn't believe everything Fox news tells you old boy.

You provide me with actual Bible references that support what you just said, taking both the Old and New Testament into account as whole, and maybe then I will argue with you.
