Government spending

That's an unsupported claim you make because YOUR side is in actuality far worse than the Dems and you can't bring yourself to admit it. Every GOP adminstration since 1976 has raised spending faster than every Dem administration, and way faster than the rate of inflation. The highest ever number of 'earmarks' came under a GOP president and a GOP Congress.

The GOP is the heavyweight champion of spending.

Translation: "It doesn't matter what the Democrats do, because the Republicans are worse". Cool - I'll remember your "logic" the next time you speak out over something that happens in Iraq.

Get off your political high horse, professor, and just admit that BOTH sides are entirely out of control in regards to spending. Your blood pressure will be the better for it.

Constitutionally, you are correct. However, that hasn't been true in fact for quite some time.

Agreed - both Congess and the President have means to 'force the issue' to an extent, as we've seen over the last several administrations.

Super lame.

I don't agree that spending in line with the general rate of inflation is "out of control". It's pretty much what my household does, and I suspect it's what you do too. Spending at twice or three times that rate would be, particularly if it's spending money that you don't have, and expecting your kids and grandkids to pay for it.

It's ok, professor - your BDS will go away all by itself in another few months....keep your chin up!

don't take the bait and start name calling, he keeps a tally of those that he gets banned

anyway - some of us look for responsibile individuals to lead and party callout isn't the key issue. Closet socialists don't understand the concept of individuals, it's all about a 'party' so you won't find any common ground to discuss. Better to just nod and smile.

You just can't bring yourself to admit that Reagan and Bush, your heroes, talked fiscal responsibility but really walked in the other direction.

GOP administrations consistently outspend the dems. FACT.

Actually, I've stated plenty of times that Bush is no angel when it comes to spending - that BDS must REALLY be flaring up for you today, professor.

Fascinating to read your very negative comments on Obama in another thread, but you just say "no angel" about the guy who gave us the biggest deficit in world history and started a war under false pretenses.:S

Pointing out historical events is now considered "very negative comments"? (I'm guessing that you are referring to my pointing out the history of Obama's attendance at Trinity Church.)

Attending church with a nutty pastor is clearly much more venal than starting a war with a nation that presented no threat, resulting in the deaths of thousands of American soldiers, tens of thousands of civilians, and a cost of $1 Trillion or thereabouts. Yes, you certainly have your priorities in the right place.

Unlike YOU (post 46, this thread) I didn't claim there were any studies.

But you did make a claim, and that is what I am asking you to prove/support. Simple really.

The experiment on stopping welfare to see if anyone starves hasn't been done yet, because it's stupid and irresponsible, like your suggestion.

And this is where we disagree. Keeping people ON welfare is stupid and irresponsible.

Which previous president's Economic Report claimed it was good for the US?

Don't know. Never said that. You may want to stick to the actual discussion.

Quote

It doesn't affect me other than I think it poor economic policy for the nation - your premise is incorrect.

Please explain why you believe this. If the US wants to stay competitive with the world, we need to do something. And maybe with some of the lower skill level jobs moving overseas, people here can focus on higher level functioning. Just a thought. Let's discuss.

Quote

You advocate no welfare, but don't think everyone can get a job. Please inform us how those unable to work will be able to afford food and shelter.

Again, you are claiming I said something when I did not. But, just to throw an idea out there, there are many people who do not "work" for others. There are other ways to make money besides having a job. It's possible to maintain a lifestyle by being entrepreneurial. But, many people don't like that amount of risk and are willing to trade some freedoms for job security.

Quote

JohnDeere did. Not all my responses are for your eyes alone:P And there was a very strong implication when YOU wrote: "Every single person I spoke with was more than capable to work. Most of them didn't want to. "

Maybe you should reply to him then. And to clarify again, there was NO implication that those who choose not to work (the people I spoke with) are welfare cheats. I had no idea whether they were on welfare or not, just that they were homeless and living off of begging.

But back to the main point, who decides what our taxes are spent on? Obviously you and I disagree. So, how can we get millions of people to agree on how taxes should be spent? Maybe we could each fill out a checklist when we prepare our tax returns stating which programs we would like our money to fund.

Actually, the largest deficit came during WWII - because you really have to measure it as relative to the nations economic output (GDP). In 1943, the deficit was $54.3 billion, which equated to 30% of the wartime economy. (And don't read into this post that I am somehow saying that the deficit is not incredibly high now - didn't say that, not saying that).

What claim did I make? I only recall asking a question. You DID notice the "?" at the end of the sentence you keep whining about, right?

Keeping people on welfare is NOT the same as having it available for people who need it. Pretty lame strawman.

I asked a question. Only one president's economic report has actually advocated exporting US jobs. G.W. Bush's, in 2004.

:D So all those inner city underclass people and rural poor will become self employed under your model. Maybe they'll start ad agencies or software houses. Get real.

Maybe. I'd prefer my tax money went towards helping Americans rather than killing people in distant lands under false pretenses.

But at least then they sold war bonds.
