normiss 622 #101 August 25, 2008 Exactly. They are some big ass sexy flying beasts too. I live in the flight path of MCO - I don't know how many of the Virgin 747's fly in and out of Orlando...but they stop me in the middle of whatever I'm doing - dangerous on the bike sometimes....but DAMN! HUGE, slow, beautiful...they look like they should just fall. sorry for the thread drift....kinda

PhreeZone 15 #103 August 25, 2008 I live under the approach for an old ANG base that now has FedEx, UPS and DHL flying out of it. The FedEx 747's are sexy enough and they go slow for their size but watching the C-5's and C-17's come in and the pure noise they make is a hell of a lot more impressive. The C-5 looks like a good rock thrown at it would knock it down its going so slow.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

They had a couple parked next to where I work the last time Bush was in town for the UN meeting. Those things on takeoff look like they are about to stall out of the sky. They are just so big. Plus the noise will rattle your fillings out of your teeth. Not as bad as 707 without a hush kit but still pretty loud.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! Sheesh.....kids After having grown up around USAF bases in the 50's and 60's and being IN the USAF in the 70's at the height of the Cold War.. you aint LIVED till you have been in housing or barracks within 1/4 mile of an active TAC or SAC flight line. There aint nothing quite like a flight of F-4's scrambling in full afterburners..... OR an entire SAC Wing getting off the ground when the alert goes off. That shit would rattle stuff off of shelves.. or even make the mortar fall out from between the freakin bricks. Rookie120 0 #113 August 26, 2008 Quote Living proof that even a brick can fly if you put big enough engines on it!! I spent about 2 hours talking with an F-4 pilot when I was a kid at Oshkosh. I dont know why I loved it so much but the F-4 just blew my mind. He told me "it's like driving a Cadillac in the Indy 500 and winning it". He said it was big, bulky, but it kicked ass and was a blast to fly. I still remember his name. So Major Bush, I hope your doing well and thank you for talking to a little kid for so long.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! Amazon 7 #114 August 26, 2008 I guess I should not mention the several "incentive" rides I got in F-4's when I was stationed at Homestead AFB... At the time they were the transition base for pilots going from UPT T-38's into F-4's. I guess it was the fact I was SERE.. and the pilots wanted some "payback"... did I mention.. I dont get airsick.. and can pull VERY high G loadingsFlying with pilots who had done multimple tours of Nam.. and STILL had not realized their mortality...made for "interesting" flights. Maybe the U.S government decided they can't afford new tankers, after all. http://mwhodges.home.att.net/nat-debt/debt-nat-a.htm The KC-135 are good to go for a long time. Low cycles/low time per airframe. You and I will be dead long before they stop using them. They're just like an old 1957 pampered Chevy Bel Air. Nothing beats a 1957 Chevy Bel Air. They're a little thirsty, but they keep going and going. Just refuel the thing, change the oil and spark plugs on a regular basis. That's it.
