Obama wins South Carolina BIG!

Recommended Posts

With 95% of precincts reporting, he's got 55% of the votes, compared to 27% for Hillary. She thought she had a decisive victory in Nevada, with 6-ish percent more votes and fewer delegates. :S It's a thing of beauty. :)

Apparently Hillary won't be doing much campaigning for the next state either, from what I understand she has to take a week off to have surgery, I guess they ar putting a gold crown on one of the fangs in her vagina:)

Maybe she should have gotten a grill beforehand.

NPR was saying the other day that something like 60% of the registered Dems in SC are black, so this isn't exactly surprising.

I'm not taking sides here, but can YOU say, "President Obama" ? Might be a good time to start practicing.....

obviously as im in ireland you are more up on this subject then me but i heard a commentator say that the clintons were gonna do their best to lose south carolina and make a big deal of it being the black vote that is going to make them lose.

their plan being that the dems will rally around in the next states and vote for clinton as they dont want obama to get threw simply on the black vote

dont know what you americans think about that but it sounds interesting to me

It has been SOP for the Democratic party to keep groups of people down who they pander to for votes.
As long as we've been fighting this 'War on Poverty', some 50 yrs., it's the same old procedure. Throw money at it. It's time to give the people some hope and actually empower them to use their abilities to do something besides walk to the mailbox for a check.
I think that Obama may do that.
I don't sense that he's is filled with the racial anger that so many 'African Americans' are.
I also observe that he has a measured calmness, unlike Hillary, who is an angry, socialist, feminist, who's ideas for a utopian society are being proven wrong everyday.
I would rather have a calm, multiracial man than an angry white woman in the office.

But, I'm voting Republican, so what do I know?

quite possible that this is a phyrric victory for Obama - you hear his
name mentioned more and more often together with Jesse Jackson
and even Al Sharpton -- something the Obama campaign really
liked to avoid.

We'll have to see how the national polls will react. Obama still has
to catch up a 20% gap in many Feb 5th states ...

The more interesting thing - Edwards is effectively finished but has
vowed to stay in. If Clinton and Obama run a long and close race
that will turn him into a "king maker" down the road.

Something I heard in the media that rings true to my ears . . . It seems that few people are "on the fence" with regard to Hillary, they either like her or dislike her. That being the case, Edwards remaining in the race is very helpful to her. She's still getting all the votes of people who like her, and Edwards splits some votes off Obama among the voters who dislike her. It wouldn't surprise to learn that both of them know this and his remaining in the race is a simple exploitation of the situation, with her dangling the carrot of "VP".

The numbers that are emerging on the day after are most interesting. As expected, Obama got solid support from black voters. But the real surprise is the support he got from white voters. In the final days before the primary, the predictions were that he might get as little as 10% of the white vote. Instead, he won 25% of the total white vote AND over 50% of the young white vote. And he crushed Hillary, 55% to her 27%, more than double her votes.

The Orange County Register (certainly no great fans of Obama) noted this morning that Obama has more foreign policy experience than Bill Clinton did in the 1992 primaries.

I think Obama's campaign as reached a point of
liftoff that deserves taking a good hard look at him. Like him or not, he just might win this thing.

Back on Jan. 24th, Clinton made this prediction.
Quote

Voting for president along racial and gender lines "is understandable because people are proud when someone who they identify with emerges for the first time," the former president told a Charleston audience while campaigning for his wife.

Clinton believed that his wife would lose because of racism. In a subtle way, he reminded the people of S. Carolina of the ethnicity of Obama.

Quote

Bill Clinton, who has been campaigning for his wife in South Carolina this week, said Obama and the media had stirred up tensions over race in response to criticism from some Democrats about the couple's strategy.

Then, he accused Obama of stirring up racial tensions.

I think old Bubba Bill is going to finish off Hillary's campaign. I liked him when he was Presifent, and I missed him when the Chimpanzee took over the office. But I really do NOT want to see another 8 years, or even 4 years of a Clinton co-presidency. Nobody can seriously believe he's just going to sit around playing poker with the Secret Service.

Then, he accused Obama of stirring up racial tensions.

People liked the old "aw...shucks" good ole boy from Arkansas kicking dust up with the toe of his boot.
He'd look smile and look at the ground and play the sax on tv.

The new confrontational BC reminds them of HC now.

Quote

Democrats inside and outside the Clinton campaign on Sunday debated and in some cases bemoaned the degree to which former President Bill Clinton ’s criticism of Senator Barack Obama last week had inflicted lasting damage on his wife’s presidential candidacy.

“I think his harsh style hurt Senator Clinton — it polarized the campaign and polarized the electorate, and it also made it harder for Senator Clinton’s positive message to break through,” said Celinda Lake, a Democratic strategist and pollster who is not affiliated with any of the candidates.

It gives the appearance that he feels it is necessary for him to step in and fight her battles. That is bad at any level.

Rice makes statements like "I am going to the middle east..." and "While I am there, I am going to..."
HC needs to give the image that she is capable under any circumstances.

If she starts to lose ground in some battle, you hear, "...it's a vast right wing conspiracy" or "all the other candidates are ganging up on me."
So? That's what entire other countries and blocks of countries do to the president.

Either she is a strong, lawyer-politician or she is a helpless little girl that all the boys are picking on.
Her choice.

I think that may be a problem with women voters.
In the day to day lives of normal women, they fight their own battles. They know that "poor lil me" is a manipulation game and mistrust that tactic.

Quote

“Voters don’t like the idea of a co-presidency, and he became so high profile that he made people begin to see this as a possible co-presidency,” Ms. Fowler said. “It’s even more problematic because she’s a woman. It looks like she either needs him to fight the big battles for her, or she can’t keep the big dog on the porch.”

True! And don't forget, McCain worked for the Viet Cong for two years. Do we really want a North Vietnamese agent as president of the US? And of course Huckabee has three wives and supports polygamy, and Hilary Clinton secretly has people killed and their bodies disposed of.

I guess Mitt Romney is out, then . . . his name isn't even Mitt Romney! We have no idea who he is.

What kind of a name is "Mitt" anyway? I bet he's hand-in glove with the commies.
