Why dont you set up a seance and channel some of the spirits of the dead Europeans from the 1930's and 1940's

Yup, that doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Are you really trying to say that Hitler could not have done what he did if more of the populace in Europe owned guns?

what do you think your government will do to you if you gave up your guns? what exactly are you scared of?

I have no fear of the government. I have a real fear of deer, therefore, I opt to kill as many as I can with my beautiful winchester model of 1917 30-06. The smell of gunpowder is the smell of victory!

why don't you actually answer my question and actually tell me what YOU are personally scared of?what are you scared of?

Criminals that do not care what the laws are, and will always be able to acquire gun--these people and what they do scare me.

YOU have no right to deprive me of my right to protect myself and my loved ones.

The Police are charged with protecting the public at large, not any one person--The Supreme Court stated that.

I will protect myself until the police arrive.

You can chose to not protect yourself. You do not have the right to prevent me from protecting myself.

One wonders what your obsession with guns is, given the # of threads you've started on the issue. One also wonders why you believe it is the government's actions that gun owners would fear were their guns confiscated. 'Tis not the actions of the government, but the malicious actions of their fellow citizens (and illegal immigrants) that gun owners need fear were they to give up the guns they currently hold.

The families of the VA TECH victims have yet to bury their dead and the anti-gunners come out with their attacks on the second ammendment and gun owners. Why don't you all hold these threads in abeyance for a week or two and then bring up your points?

Because the issue is timely now.

It will be no more or less timely next week.

And given the upcoming election cycle, it won't be particularly timely until January 2009. The DNC has made it very clear that they're going nowhere near this subject right now.

My point being, it's uppermost on people's minds now. It's being discussed everywhere now, not just in speakers corner, but everywhere. People discuss issues when they're freshly current. There's nothing necessarily disrespectful about that.

Maybe they will endorse a state religion and impose unfair taxes and we will have to move away to another continent and use those gus to kick the shit out of them and declare independence.

Pretty good answer there. ;)

I'm not scared of the government per se, but better safe than sorry.
I have a Ruger .45, an AK-47, a 10 Gauge Roebuck pump shotgun, a Glock .40, a Smith and Wesson .357 short barrel revolver, an SKS (Chinese knockoff of the AK), and a .22 rifle.
I'll be damned if i EVER give any of them up to the government, new legislation be damned. Fortunately the state I live in has concealed carry permit laws.
I would rather bury my shit in an undisclosed location (along with an appropriate amount of ammo) and report them stolen....
And yes, I intend to get even more guns. I am not a criminal, but woe unto the stupid fuck that tries to break into my car/house or tries to fuck with my family.

As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...

...A point lost on those who think that taking away everyone's weapons will somehow disarm criminals who can't even legally own guns to begin w/.

Yeah...youre a gun guy.
For your information an SKS IS NOT a Chinese knockoff of an AK

They're pretty different firearms. They're both Soviet produced weapons, but the SKS predates the AK.

Yeah, it's really fucking timely for friends and families of those killed to see their loved ones' death turned into a tool for a political platform with which they might or might not agree.

Had the anti-gunners an ounce of class they'd hold off for a bit out of respect for the families and friends of the VTECH victims.

I've had the pleasure of playing w/ an SKS. Badass. Not sure what ammo we were using but we were penetrating 1/8" steel at 50'.

Was it only in Germany where guns were proscribed from the civilian population?

The Nazi's and WWII would have been prevented by more gun ownership in 1930 Germany???

This is really comical - I'd strongly recommend reading up on the
many forces and the process by which the Nazi's came into power -
this was far from a coup out of the blue against a resistant population.
It's absurd to think the gun laws were significant factor compared to
the many other such as Versailles and WW I, political apathy
caused by a dysfunctional government and democratic
inexperience, world economic crisis, radicalization by communist
and respective reaction, etc, etc.

FWIW the Nazi's were the ones liberalizing the strict Weimar
Republic gun laws in `38. In `33 the only thing most ordinary
German citizens thought of HItler was that he was just another
chancellor in the Weimar merry go around who will disappear
like all the other in a few months. By `38 it was much clearer what
this guy was about, and the availablity of guns didn't change
anything.

Today Germany has still much stricter gun laws for the last 60 years
and is far from slipping into totalitarism these days. If anything the
US has currently the more disturbing record or concentration and
abuse of executive power. (and no one is even thinking about
picking up their arms against the govt)

Germany also has half the per capita murder rate of the US - and
if you look at gun related homicides the ration the US rate is 10 to
20 times higher than that in Germany. The demography is many
ways similar to that of the US - a mix of prosperity and troubled
populations groups, among them poor and high unemployment
regions in some former east germans states where violent radicals
are making the news, large immigration from mide-eastern
countires with very different cultures and their own fights, as well
as crimila gangs coming in from eastern european countries.

I have no doubt that if "liberate" gun laws in Germany now and
cause a proliferation of gun ownership and circulation the murder
rates in Germany will escalate - they might even reach those in
the US ...

Cheers, T

I'd read up on the Warsaw Ghetto, 1943.

Historical notes:

Ottoman Turkey, 1915-1917, 1.7 million Armenians killed.

Soviet Union, 1929-1945, 20 million citizens killed.

Nazi Germany, 1933-1945, 20 million Jews and Gypsies killed.

Nationalist China, 1927-1949, 10 million citizens killed.

Red China, various periods from 1949-1976, 20-35 million citizens killed.

Guatemala, 1960-1981, 100-200 thousand Mayan and other Indians killed.

Uganda, 1971-1979, 300 thousand Christian and other political enemies killed.

Cambodia (Pol Pot/Khmer Rouge), 1975-1979, 2 million citizens killed.

Rwanda, 1994, 800 thousand Tutsi killed.

The common denominator? All were disarmed beforehand by the governments.

One of the main reasons Hitler became leader and got so powerful was because he gave the german people hope again that they could be a great nation

after WW1, germany was a crushed nation, they are a proud race who had lost a world war and were looking for a leader who could give them back their sense of pride

what ever faults Hitler had, he was a great leader, just look at old films of the rallies, how do you think you can inspire people like that if you're not a leader? somebody who can lead a proud, crushed nation back to the top

guns have pretty much zero to do with the rise of Nazis in germany

We like the reputation we have for so many guns, being able to carry them in public. It is not embarrassing for us to be associated with the old west in this regard. We don't mind being very different in this respect. Self reliance and all that, don't you know.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
