Back to that old quote.. "It's the economy, stupid!"

.

Do you have any idea of the extent to which we are in debt to the Chinese, the Japanese, and the Europeans? Our "booming economy" is NOT based on our own work, it's based on borrowing.

No, remember, I didn;t bring that cliche in, it's usually a conservative doing that. I do know the extent of our debt in general terms.

(Attacks by Lucky bolded by me....If you can't play the ball...Kick the player?)

Quote

It was a joke play on raise inflation / redundant. S/B cause inflation. Anywho, your concern is more for the betterment of the market than that of people who can’t play their light bill? I think a couple bucks an hour can be absorbed by the consumer, but thanks for the humanitarianism anyway.

My concern is for:

1. The majority.
2. The people who will work for a living.
3. Me.

Save me your BS humanitarianism line. A logical fallacy Attacking the person. You hope to make me look bad since you claim I don't care about the poor. When you don't have NUMBERS or FACTS you always play the "Save the Children" angle. That is ANOTHER logical fallacy, Appeal to Emotion. You would think someone as learned as you claim to be would know better.

How about you bring some facts not just emotional BS?

Quote

W/O checking stock value or net worth, they could absorb it. Everyone will be paying the hike, so there will be a need to stay competitive by all, which is what we call a free market. I’m just floored by your contempt for poor people.

More BS attacks? It is not contempt, it is simple economics. Here is a hint, if EVERYONE PAYS MORE...Then they really didn't get a raise.

Quote

I bet you cry like a baby if you get turned down for a raise, and you probably make >50k/year. Classism, fuck the poor, they deserve to get shit, right?

More insults and attacks? I didn't cry, I worked harder and got a promotion. When they tried to screw me on my raise, I started job shopping...To keep me they gave me a 7.5% raise...Next years is going to be *at least* 9-10%. good for me...If more worked to make their life better they would live better lives.

Instead of waiting for someone to do something for me, I did it myself.

As for me not caring about the poor...Wanna compare how much money and time I dedicated last year vs. your numbers? Also, I help take care of my parents instead of letting the government do it. So...Really, drop the childish name calling.

Let me guess you are one of those that can't afford your light bill?

Quote

Face it, we took BAQ, BAS, COLA, and whatever other goodies we got to subsidize our pathetic pay, so the landlords exploited that.

Let me see if I get this right, you agree with the BAH example, and yet you think for a second that if min wage gets increased the landlords will not exploit that as well????

Quote

Yes and yes. I’m not willing to fuck the poor family so I can withhold extra pay for the kid living at home using his pay for spinners on his car. I like your generalization tho, fraught with humanity.

More attacks nice....

Quote

Look, we are getting stuck on this argument that you can’t shit any real-world examples for. SHIT OR GET OFF THE POT. Show me examples of your model or quit the drudgery of, “Raising taxes will only slow the economy and create a recession.” Show, in the recent past where that is the case, not just in your textbook.

I HAVE you just make attacks on my character and ignore anything else. Sheesh really use some of that white color logical thinking you claim to have.

Quote

If Capitalism means selective healthcare, I like anything else but Capitalism.

Well if you WANT socialism or communism Thats one thing....But the US was not founded on that.

Quote

I wrote, "Doubt it. The best thing is the war in Iraq was a major reason for the swing....But at one point the war was popular. So the only thing that has really changed is the voters have grown sick and do not back the choices they made."

Lucky wrote:
That’s oversimplification The moral righties fucking little boys, revealing the names of agents, cutting taxes for the rich, having this robust economy, yet wages are low, EXTREME corruption up and down the spectrum with Abramoff. Please, it is FAR more complex than you state.
.

Nope. try reading CNN. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/special/issues/

49% said Iraq was the biggest issue...Only 25% said Moral issues. 33% the Economy (hint, 49 is bigger than 33 or 25 :P).....Really, quit spouting crap you can't back up.

I wrote "Edit: lets try to keep this civil and on topic...Care to explain in economic terms the benefits of raising min wage?"

Quote

That’s a microcosm; it will have no measurable effect on the economy.

Source? And I love how all you have done is attack me time after time.

I wrote "Or how taxing the hell out of the population will help the economy?"

Quote

Let’s not tax the hell out of them, let’s raise the taxes on the richest who use their bank accounts as scorecards, while the rate of poverty climbs.

So you want to punish those that do well, to pay people to do nothing....Got it.

Really Economics 101 see if your local school has a class like that. You spout claims, but don't back them....Just like you claim that home ownership is not an economic indicator...Or the Dow Jones, or unemployment....Sheesh.

How about you try to debate with FACTS, not emotional outbursts and attacks?

Well, the GOP are fucked now, because the house, senate and the majority of governerships are now in the hands of the Democrats, and nobody put them there but themselves with their hubris. Add to this, them forcing Rumsfeld to walk the plank in a typically brazen act of cowardice, and it's just been a delightful couple of days for us liberals. I'm sure more culling is to follow.

For all you conservatives lashing out here because you're upset that your racehorse lost, just grow up. You didn't show any more class when the situation was reversed.

Now there's going to be congressional oversight, and lots of it. That can only be good for our system of government, and for the American electorate as a whole.

AQ and Hamas are pretty thrilled about it too, from reports I've seen.

Is that really the best you can do? Did you just cut and paste that from the party's list of responses? I've seen you do better than that.

Btw, are you saying in your sig line that if you're spanish-speaking and a democrat, you must surely be looking for a hand-out? Nice one!

One can't do worse at ANYTHING than the last Congress. Absolutey horrible preformace by the Legislative branch in almost all regards. Hmmm...perhaps ALL regards...I'll have to think hard to find something that Congress did that impressed me.

And maybe one of these years we'll actually see our federal debt reduced. How long has it been since that happened? 46 years?

It was flattened after a huge increase, one that the country has never seen in US history.... oh, that was by Clinton; he tuned it flat for Bush to turn it steeper.

Nice job of talking around the question. Plain and simple, regardless of any "surpluses" we supposedly had during Clinton's tenure, the federal debt has increased every single year since 1961.

Nice to see some honesty. I have said before that the conservatives had a great opportunity to do great things. Not often do you get handed a situation to affect change so easily. I am dumbfounded it was not greatly taken advantage of.

One of the few things I can think of is that many were so happy basking in the glory of power that they forgot they actually had to do some work too.

Maybe this break will remind them of where their roots are, and the fact that they are supposed to be doing the business their constituents tell them to, rather than what the Dems tell the papers to say.

Chasing polls is no way to run a government. Unfortunately, it seems to have become the status quo.

Perhaps if the right wingers actually take a look at what the democrats are actually wanting to do...maybe perhaps the wish to make this a better country for all people rather than the corporate welfare the neo-cons have been foisting upon this country... with a few wars thrown in for maximum profits for them.

I think it speaks volumes about the right actually.

ONe of the reasons I started posting in here with the most caustic remarks I could was just to balance out such wonderful Moral christian values that the right always seems to show us and to come up with.... for anyone who does not agree with their fascist agenda. I hear there are PLENTY of right wing militias out there that are looking for a few...men... I will not say good men.. since they certainly do not follow the precepts taught by christ.. yet their compounds always seem to incorporate the trappings and symbols of christianity[:/]

As the left seems determined to follow the trappings of communism... or wave the religion flag when it helps them - such as churches sponsoring speeches by certain Dem candidates, perhaps? Or maybe the press covering how a noted religious leader was having prayer meetings with a politician that was having problems... but that's fine, isn't it? After all, the Dems never said they were religious... unfortunately, it shows.

And yes, the sigline *does* show the lack of character of the Dems...struck a nerve, did it?

I've changed mine, now that I'm aware of Sangiro's thoughts on the matter...of course, nothing has been said about OTHER political siglines over the last SEVERAL months...and I'm sure there won't be until it goes WAY over the line... as usual.

I know you like throwing that around. But I have a question for you. If the Rupiblicans are of such sound character, how come they acheived almost nothing while holding a sizeable majority and the presidency for a number of years?

As I've said *several* times... there's (unfortunately) hardly any difference between the two parties anymore... which is why I *so* love to pop the little "the Dems are SOOOOOOoooo much better than the Reps!" balloons...

Actually I made the comment in this thread, three posts above yours. But it wasn't in the form of a question, it was a statement, that I was amazed that they hadn't.

Then we got into how you like to throw around how Democrats have no character, implicating you think republicans are full of character. At which point I asked, if they were, how come they achieved pretty much nothing in the last couple of years.

To this point, you have failed to answer that question.
