warpedskydiver 0 #77 March 2, 2006 QuoteThanks! Also, don't get an AR15. The holes are tiny, and the bullets go really fast (no/little shock wave created by the bullet). When you have tiny fast bullets, you could theoretically shoot somebody 15 times at a range of 5-15 feet and they could still come at you because they have many tiny, thin little holes drilled in them (as opposed to one big one that your cat could jump through. I guarantee you that will stop them cold ). If you want something for "long range self defense" (if there is such a thing), get a Russian or Chinese AK-47 style gun, something that shoots a 7.62x39 cartridge. The bullets are a lot fatter, the shells pack a lot more juice and you can use either full metal jackets (long range) or softpoints (great stopping power). The AR15 definitely has "Movie Star Appeal" because it is definitely an "Assault Rifle", but if you want a better weapon, get a Chinese SKS, an AKS-74, AK-47, or similar. If you want to impress your girl with your "soldier-of-fortune pose", get the AR-15. Or, you could spend the money on her so she doesn't have to whore herself out to mobsters... Or, go with my original suggestion, the 8-shot, 12ga Mossberg Model 500 Pump with pistol grips. Just the "chk-chk" noise it makes when you chamber a round is enough to give even the hardest of the hard a little skidmark in their britches. well little bullets going fast is a good thing here is an example f=1/2(V*M2) sorry for my lack of keyboarding skills as it's not easy for me to use express exponents on a qwerty so if you extrapolate that heavier bullets moving slower is better you would be wrong as wrong can be also an SKS or AK47 and it's variants are actually ballistically pieces of shit.... I saw an article once that claimed an SKS is a sniper weapon! the 7.62x39mm should have been called .30cal weak yeah they are fun to shoot and make noise and also have terrible ballistics... on a 200yd zero if you shoot at a target 300 yards away that bullet will drop 13.5" by the time it gets there oh and using the pump on a shotgun to "scare someone" is only a good thing if they are unarmed. when it would be more advisable to actaully have a shell in the chamber already as you may want to actully fire the shotgun... the sound of a hammer hitting the firing pin on an empty chamber won't do much for your saftey if you want to make .30cal holes use a 7.62x51mm (.308win) in maybe a short barreled FN/FAL the FAL is every bit as relaible as an AK or SKS and manufactured better

Of course, he's referring to the political definition of an "assault rifle", and not the technical military definition. And the political definition is basically; "anything that looks scary". DexterBase 1 #79 March 2, 2006 All I know is that this is the most entertaining thread I've read here on DZ.com in a loooong time. I think this is probably a troll, as entertaining as it it, but if it's not I won't judge you. You're so absolutely screwed that maybe you just need a little advice to keep you alive for a couple more days. Personally, I am quite capable of killing any intruder with any weapon in my collection. My standard weapon, which is rarely further than an arms distance from me at any time in my home, is my HK USP 40 Compact. I like that because without sights, I can put a bullet on a 3x5 index card at any distance within my apartment. I shoot A LOT. For someone who doesn't shoot a lot, I recommend two things. 1.) (Preferable) Get a gun and get your ass to the range and put 1000 rounds through it or keep shooting until you're absolutely confident that you can put a bullet into whatever you're aiming at. If you're incompetent with a gun, run. Choosing to stand and fight with a person who is armed and knows how to effectively use a weapon will just result in you being a brave dead guy. In your case, run to another state. 2.) (least preferable) Get a weapon that will partially make up for your lack of skills. Get something that's simple to operate (pump shotgun comes to mind) and fires buckshot with an open choke. Shoulder the weapon, point it at the center of mass and squeeze the trigger. Keep shooting until the threat is eliminated or you are dead. Either way, if you choose to avoid the authorities, make yourself scarce. Good luck. edit: dyslexic fingers
