Different BOC handles result in Premeture openings?

Recommended Posts

First off, maybe this is a stupid question.

But my pilot chute got a hackey handle and i got this feeling that when i'm sit-flying, the pilot chute might just rip out by the air hitting it. The pilot chute itself is not loose or anything but i just got that funky feeling.

Is this true??:S

It is not a stupid question. That is the primary reason for freefly pud handles.

If the BOC is in good condition and the rig is freefly friendly it should be ok. But you can ask your rigger to replace your hackey with a freefly pud for extra peace of mind. Some manufacturers also have hackeys with tuck tabs. You might consider that as well.

I wish I still had the video, there was some footage of an old friend of mine sit flying and his hackey handle is creeping out of the boc pouch bringing pilot chute with it...... luckily nothing happened on that jump, but once we saw the video we grounded his rig until we swapped out the pilot chute.......

Definitley not a stupid question, its an often overlooked point.

Personally I jump the Freefly Pud because I feel it offers the greatest protection of the PC itself, as well as the bridle coming out of the BOC. I find it easy to locate at pull time.

First: this is no stupid question ..

I use a tuck-tab hackey (Mirage G3). It stays where it has to be ...
Had a freefly handle before, but wasn´t really feeling comfortable with that.
The hackey gives me the best of two worlds, secure stowed and easy to grab.
But my sport is 99,5% FS and only few FF.

Watching the headdown/anglefly/track/sit/whatever-flyer at our DZ and other DZs as well, a tuck-tab hackey or freeflyhandle would be my strong recommendation.
