Microsoft Alti

Recommended Posts

There's an article about a skydiver/developer that has written an app for the Microsoft Band 2 to turn it into an alti.

I am personally firmly against using altimeter not purposed built for skydiving such as Suuntos, but it's an interesting project none the less.

Microsoft documentation says that the barometer sampling frequency is 1 Hz: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4762794#4762794

However, I took a quick look at his code and it seems that the Windows SDK, unlike Android, allows specifying a 128 ms sampling rate. Interesting... I just got a pair of Band 2s at work, so I might investigate this further.

Definitely worth your time to investigate but: the SDK can allow you to specify a high frequency and obviously your application can sample as often as it wants, but if the hardware can only update once per second, a lot of those samples are going to say the same thing :P

The SDK may be future-proofing.
