BillyVance 34 #1 May 21, 2005 Check this out! I just got it via email a little while ago. When the page loads, and if you have Macromedia Flash (if not, you can load it from there), click on the video screen to start the video. A man starts signing, talking about Ed Buell, age 85, doing a tandem at Perris, then introduces the video. It is pretty damn cool... He's even signing clearly in freefall! You may need a highspeed broadband connection though. http://www.deafnewspaper.com/"Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

BillyVance 34 #5 May 24, 2005 Quotebilly, that's sooo cool! it brought tears of joy to my eyes!!! can you tell us what he's saying in freefally and on the ground? I'll have to review the video and transcribe everything he said. Maybe tonight... it was pretty cool though! Take a look here at http://www.deafskydivers.org/Profiles/HubertBecher/1stTandem/index.htm for pictures on Ed Buell's friend Hubert Becher's tandem jump from 2003. This was during the Deaf World Record event at Perris. Hubert was the first deaf skydiver ever, having made his first jump in 1964 at Elsinore, and retiring in 1980 after a few hundred jumps. He came out to visit the DZ when he heard about the world record attempts, and we were all thrilled to meet him. It was kind of like meeting Lew Sanborn. We surprised him by chipping in to buy him a tandem jump so he could experience freefall for the first time in 23 years. When we presented the gift certificate to him, there was not a dry eye in the group. What's even cooler is Hubert got his wife Judy to do a tandem too! They're both in their 70's now. So they both went up on the same load, along with a few of us deaf skydivers. The pics tell the tale.
