lawrocket 3 #1 October 11, 2004 I've decided to go back on meds for ADHD. I understand that there are three meds used for treating it: 1) Adderall - a time released ritalin 2) Streterra - not a stimulant 3) Wellbutrin Anybody have any experience in this department? My wife is hotter than your wife.

My wife has tried both Adderall and Strattera for her ADHD. She didn't like Strattera, though I can't remember why. She also had Adderall, but then her body started reacting funny and she switched to Adderall XR, and she's been happy ever since. It just helps her focus on things, and as long as she takes it in the morning with breakfast, she won't be kept up awake that night. Think of it as a caffiene jolt that lasts all day, but weans off gradually in the evenings. airtwardo 6 #3 October 12, 2004 Quote 1) Adderall - a time released ritalin 2) Streterra - not a stimulant 3) Wellbutrin Quote I might be able to offer a little input here. I'm very familiar with all three meds mentioned, though in applications for children. We adopted 3 kids from Russia 5 years ago, and were having all kinds of behavioral problems with them. We tried everything possible, and we were sure it was something WE were doing wrong, all three were diagnosed with ADHD..but we were dead set against using drugs thinking it was a 'Band-Aid' solution... Finally out of pure desperation we tried the various medications ... some with conditional effect on the oldest boy. Finally another Dr. (re: BETTER) recommended Adderall and I can't describe the turnaround he made! From F's in school and run in's with the cops... to straight A's and earning our trust and respect. *Adderall - 'a time released ritalin '* It's not at time released Ritalin...Ritalin was the first mainstream drug used to combat ADHD. It's actually used as much for Bi Polar disorders as it is for ADD & ADHD. It's not nearly as effective as Adderal in my opinion, and isn't prescribed as often when ADD & ADHD are the only disorders being addressed. I have a daughter on Ritalian and two sons on Adderall. We're working toward getting her into a position where she too can go to the Adderall. *Streterra - not a stimulant...* also not very effective in my experience. It was designed as an adult ADD-ADHD medication, and has fewer side effects. There are studies that show it does inhibit certain growth hormones. And questions have been raised as to possible damage to some internal organs. 2nd son was on it for several months with no discernible positive effect...4 days after starting him on a small (10mg) dosage of Adderall, MAJOR positive changes resulted. 3) Wellbutrin... I best describe it as 'lite beer' in a world of Jack Daniels. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
