freaksister 0 #1 March 27, 2001 I know we periodically share our skydiving dreams with each other. Mine seem to come in spurts, and then I won't have them for awhile. The last two I have had were completely unlike the others. In the first one, I was at some unknown DZ and they had like five wind tunnels. These were built right into the floor and could be covered up with carpets to make more room for packing! Weird. One of my old coaches, Doc, was there. I spent about twenty minutes in the damn wind tunnel with him coaching me, doing two ways, and made no improvement! I was stable but having problems with leg awareness, something that I really do have problems with in freefall. Its always something! Lately, I've been keeping my feet up on my ass! In the second dream I was jumping without altimeters. In the dream, I had lost my ProTrack and I was in freefall only to find my wrist mounted alti was broken. ???Maybe it broke on exit, I don't know. Anyway, I think I burned down to near 6K when I decided to check for clear air and pull. In real life, if I found my alti not working, I would probably check for clear air and pull, thereby giving myself a nice long cross-country! Weird dreams. Why are they always about my insecurities, or something like that? I don't think I've ever had one of those some of ya'll talk about, where you do a kick ass ten way or something! The weirdest one I have ever had was the one where I had a mal, cutaway, and landed a round reserve. Got repacked, went right back up, and had another mal. This time, the reserve was my Tempo. In other dreams, I've had canopy wraps, freefall collisions, and the typical one where you have a double mal and burn in knowing you can't do anything, and you wake up right before you bounce! Geezus. I think I should call these nightmares!! LOL The strange thing is that I haven't yet had a malfunction, or had to cutaway. I guess maybe my mind is trying to prepare for one! Cacophony 0 #3 March 27, 2001 I had some skydiving in my dream last night. It was made up partly of a shark documentary that I was in (Don't know why but it was very cool and freaky. We were hunting huge sharks and people were getting eaten.) and kept flashing back to skydiving disasters. It was video footage of skydivers getting hit by jets, low cutaways, canopy wraps, collisions, plane crashes, double malfunctions and every other bad thing that you can think of. They weren't real things that happened but they sure looked real in my dream. It was weird because it was like I was watching a documentary and they were showing all this really bad stuff. No it wasn't Sports Disasters either. I'll spare the details because I remember a whole lot. Its weird too because I just saw on rec.skydive today about this story where this guy was partially ejected from his jet and his canopy got stuck in the horizontal stablizers. Coincidence?? I think so. Still cool though.Safe landings,Alex D-23912

Iflyme 0 #5 March 27, 2001 Quotewell at least i know i'm not the only oneDon't worry 'Sis, I bet we all have those skydiving dreams! Ever since I was a kid, I've always loved jumping. I was a real good high jumper back in high school track and field days, and I was always getting my buddies to go with me to lakes and rivers where we (read "I") could jump off cliffs into the water. The dream I've been having for years goes something like this: I'm running down my parents yard (where I grew up) which is sloping slightly downward... heading towards the bushes... with each step I take, I am able to leap further and higher, 'till I am bounding many yards (see, I even abandon the metric system for you foreigners) with each stride. It's like I can almost fly. Well I've had this dream in many variations for years. Last time, I was jogging down a beautiful winding country lane, and there were lots of trees and hydro wires around. With each stride, I could sail further and jump higher, until I was right up in the wires! Sometimes, in this dream, I can take a huge running stride, then sort of swoop - just keep my feet up off the ground, and sail along...Since I started skydiving (about 3 years ago), I've had lots of skydiving dreams. I had my first "mal dream" the other night. It was too wierd, because when I realized I was having a mal, I was in the gym at school, and my mal was kinda stuck up way up where the ceiling meets the wall, and I couldn't get it free... I had one the other day where I was out in the community, and I saw a gal skydiver coming down, and get hung up in the electrical wires... being another skydiver, I called 911, but the DZ operator got her untangled and out of the mess with ease, and I was the boob because I had panicked! But most of my skydiving dreams are just of cool freefalls and canopy flight... Ain't it great!!!
Doasfu 0 #6 March 27, 2001 Quote(see, I even abandon the metric system for you foreigners)Foreigners? We're Americans. Everyone else is a foreigner.I had a pretty bad dream. I was flying in to the dropzone. I hadn't jumped, I was just getting a lift in someone's Cessna, I think it was from another DZ. Anyhow, the plane started into a deep dive, and I remember vividly seeing the ground rushing up at me, when the plane pulled out of it and landed, letting me out at my dz, which was on the beach again like my last dream. Also, when the plane was crashing, I was sitting in what seemed like the back seat of a car. Weird.Dan
PLFKING 4 #7 March 27, 2001 There is only ONE 'Sis !I've only had 1 skydiving dream so far, and it was while I was still a student. Had a lineover, and tried to drop my ripcord so I could pull down on the risers to try to clear it. The ripcord kept flying back into my hand, no matter how many times I tried to throw it away. (this had to be a result of being informed of the $15.00 fee for a lost cord). Ground's getting bigger and bigger, and I can't get this D*** ripcord outta my hand, and I'm gonna bounce real soon......Woke up in a major cold sweat...The PLF Prime Minister
Grogs 0 #8 March 27, 2001 I've never had a skydiving dream about me burning in, but I've had a couple about my friends burning in. I guess that shows where my real fears are at.
Stacy 0 #9 March 27, 2001 Had one last week (nightmare that is). Double mal. SCared the hell outta me, honestly... I had a PC in tow when I pulled my main. immediately chopped and then pulled the reserve. nothing happened. the whole thing was wierd because it was like I was looking through my eyes, not in third person. The ground just kept getting closer and closer and I must've been about 20 feet from impact when I woke up.Had myself a mimosa that morning.Blues!Stacyhttp://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks

It was almost like walking on the moon type thing, except you could get up much higher and get alot more "hang time" before coming back down. You could look back down on the houses and other such things around and it was just plain cool.Don't know if anyone has expierenced this or not but I will try to explain. It is like your asleep and not really dreaming about anything and all of a sudden you get this kind of fright/adrenaline feeling like falling off the bed or something and you wake up real quick as to catch yourself. The thing of it is I can't remember having either of these types of dreams since I started jumping last summer. It is anyones guess, but it must be because of seeing the whole falling and flying things differently now since I started jumping. I really have not had many actual skydiving dreams. I can remember one right off the top though of being in freefall and looking down to find myself really low and going for the pull and waking up right then, so I am not sure what the outcome was going to be. It's pretty interesting reading about some others dreams though.Craig
kerb 0 #11 March 27, 2001 hey folks,im new here..and stuck at AFF level 4 but i have been having some most excellent dreams about skydiving!the one i would like to share is..i was driving past a beach..and i was a DZ right on the beach! so i poped over there and said i wanted to jump..but turns out there was a huge queue and i would have to wait for ages..so i went for a walk on the beach and somehow i found this inflatable matress..i filled it up with gas for a nearby baloon seller and got on it and off i went up into the sky..i went up for ages and ages until i couldn't see the ground so clear and then i decided to let go of my matress and begin my freefall!the fall was really cool..but as the gound became clear again i reliazed i wasn't wearing a chute..DAMM! i said..and decide to aim for the ocean for a safe landing..as i approached ground i could see all the people looking at me but a lot of them were dumbasses and instead of clearning a space for me in the sea they seem to be following my heading and thus i was having a tough time finding a bit of clear ocean for my landing..but suddenly i had a pack! god knows where it came from! i pulled immediately..and had a dry landing on the beach after all!then i decided to go back to the DZ and get my JM's comment on my jump..i had to climb this mountain of some sort and there were a lot of obsticals..but i finally made it out to him..he said he liked my flying matress idea and the jump was a perfect 10 =P~well i can't wait to pass level 4 to get some more real cool dreams in!thanks for reading!kerb.-- one of these days i will have enough money to pay for a return flight =)
Grogs 0 #12 March 27, 2001 QuoteIt is anyones guess, but it must be because of seeing the whole falling and flying things differently now since I started jumping.I feel the same thing too. I haven't seen the falling dream in ages. Psychologists say that the falling dream represents a fear of being out of control. I no longer see falling as a lack of control. I feel a sense of total control while falling actually, so I guess it makes sense I don't have it anymore. If I did have it, I'd probably start doing backflips or something. And Kerb, if by stuck at level 4 you mean you've had to repeat it several times, I would highly recommend a trip to the closest wing tunnel. As expensive as they are, 10 minutes in a wind tunnel is considerably cheaper than another AFF level 4 and will probably do a whole lot more good. Deleted 0 #13 March 27, 2001 I had one about two weeks ago where I was falling through the clouds. I had a sense of beaty and peace, it just felt so good. Then I reached for the PC, had a beaty of an opening, and a stand up landing. Can't wait till my knee is better so I can jump!Pete
