Craziest thing I've ever seen!!!

Recommended Posts

I was checking out some random skydiving sites and stumbled on this site. I was looking through their skydiving pictures and came across these. (links below)
I am wondering how can I get into jumps like these and do they do stuff like this in the USA?? If not, I am starting to wonder what happened to freedom and all that crap!! This stuff looks like fun!! FYI, I found these pictures here(for legal purposes, I guess):
Anyway, any info would be awesome!! I believe that this Skyvan is based in Austria. I would travel to Europe just to jump this bird...especially in these crazy ways. Enjoy and let me know what you think!!

The let is a great plane. Fast on the way to altitude as well. The only trouble is the run in speed - FAST. If you have a plane full of solo or two ways then being last out of the door can mean you don't get back to the DZ - you need to either get a second pass or pull a little higher than normal.
Big door as well! Makes exits for larger groups a bit less of a tight fit!
I think the rumour about the skyvan at Langar comes from the BPA mag where they showed a *model* skyvan and said look at the new plane!

That looks awesome. Well....I think.....the props have been shut down for those exits. I realize that a camera at the right speed will 'stop' them, but the detail is awfully accurate and for jumpers to be that close to the props I would imagine they shut them down. That must be one awesome pilot to fly a skyvan inverted. I would love to do that. Maybe we are too lawsuit crazy in the United States to do stuff like that.

i think that's the famous "pink skyvan" it's got a very good rep. here in europe. they have boogies just for it sometims. i think our fellow forum member cronistin could help us out on some info about it. i belive it's home based at her dz in austria. i almost went to a biigie last year it was at but couldn't aford it. it travels all around europe.

That's right wingnut...that is the one!! I would LOVE to jump that someday. From the roof. From inverted. From the wing. That is one thing that makes me hate living in the US. We have so many regulations when it comes to stuff like this, it doesn't let us do cool stuff like "the pink" does.
Oh well....hopefully I'll make it to Europe sometime for it!!

where in the regs does it say you can't climb on the wing? and i don't think it was inverted, just the picks were upside down. they'd hit the tail if it was inverted.

Those are great pics!!
I dont know, those shots, 3 and 4 look like an inverted skyvan to me!! Look at the clouds. I could be wrong, maybe Im high or something, but that looks like the top of the clouds, not the bottoms!!

That is totally an inverted Skyvan. You can see the ground on the bottom of the pic and the sky on the top. And the top of the bird is definetely facing the ground. I cannot believe this!! Also, check out the pics of riding on top of the plane and jumping off the back!! How cool is that??
Any DZ in the USA do that??? Or a jump plane for that matter???

okay, okay,
it's an inverted skyvan. now why they don't do it in the states in beyond me. i have never seen nor heard of any reg saying you can't climb ona wing in flight of turn the plane upside down. it's just most "sane" people wouldn't want to walk a wing while it's in the air or jump out of a upsidedown plane.

I scratched my head about pictures 2, 3, and 4 for a long time... why are the jumpers getting higher relative to the plane as the series progresses? And how the hell can a pilot keep it inverted long enough to manage an exit? I think they must have been doing a loop, or at least an Immelman. If it could be done fast enough, g-forces would hold the jumpers "down" on the ramp until exit time, and as their upward momentum spent itself and as the plane continues through the loop, they appear to be climbing relative to the plane. Does this make sense to anyone else?

I did my first Jumps from this Baby... from the inside, mind you, not from the wings *gg*
She's great!
While I had my course in tunesia in february, the pros did some fun stuff again...
http://www.pink.at/bilder/58titel1.jpg
I did some jumps from different cessnas inbetween, doesn't compare.
Visited her (and the great team around her (http://www.pink.at) last weekend in Klatovy.
9 Jumps, enough for my License!!! My first (foolish) reserve. Quite an experience.
Anyway, if you're interested in jumping this plane, check out the schedule at http://www.pink.at/schedule.htm.
Greetings

Hi! The plane you see on the pictures is "Pinky" - The Pink Skyvan. It's home is our wonderful Austria. At the moment the Pinky is on tour in "Klatovy" (CZ) - where you can do jumps out of it during the summer. If you would have more infomation about is go to www.pink.at or www.fallschirmspringen.at. The skydivers who are on the "roof" of the plane and on the wing are the "Schurken" - a freeflying etc. club who belongs to the pinky. Check out their homepage www.dieschurken.com or www.freefly.com.
Hope this info helps you!
Blue Skies from Austria!

I consider myself "sane" and I would LOVE to walk a wing or jump from in inverted plane. That would mix it up so much, it would be indescribable!! But hey, who am I to say that I'm sane......MUHAHAHA!!!:)NEW AND IMPROVED!!!

Sure looks like the Austrian-based Pink Skyvan. I did a bunch of jumps from it back in 1986-1987.
Great plane, lots of fun and it flies the boogie circuit in Europe.
In the USA: Perris Valley, CA, Skydive Arizona and a couple of East Coast dropzones fly Skyvans. Their official excuse is that they allow competitors to train for world championships where the air lift will be military transports with tail gates. The real reason some US DZs fly Skyvans is because they are FUN to exit!
As for the photos of skydivers exiting an inverted Skyvan ... I doubt this was planned. Back in 1987 we discovered that if 20 skydivers jam an exit, and if all 20 of them are aft of the wing, a Skyvan will stall and spin and do other funky maneuvers. We also know that if 20 skydivers jam aft of the wing on a Twin Otter, it will stall, spin and do other funky maneuvers! Then again, if you jam all 6 jumpers aft of the wing on a Cessna 206, it will stall, spin and do other funky maneuvers! Pilots tend to land all white-faced and shaky after those maneuvers!
One other caution, twice I have seen 20 skydivers try to jam a Skyvan exit on the ground, on both ocaissions, the Skyvan tilted back on its tail and required expensive repairs. Geez! Maybe if an exit does not work on the ground, it won't work in the air!
In conclusion, the photos show the famous Pink Skyvan and it is a lot of fun to exit!

*Phhhsssttt* (spitting coke all over my monitor) One Tandem & he's freakin' Greg Gasson. I realize you're excited to start AFF man, but you've only crossed the very perimeter of this great sport. Give it a rest, I'm sure you'll have plenty to keep you busy. You have no idea man! hehe

dude....if doing stuff like this doesn't interest you, don't take it out on me. And when did I say I was Greg Gasson?? 1) I'll never jump without my rig and 2) I don't have tie-dyed t-shirts (although I like them). Just because I only have one jump doesn't mean that I can't be all excited about doing some crazy stuff in the future!! Damn...lay off the newbies!!

Mountainman, I agree. I’m only level three and I would love to try that shit. I know damn well that I’ll have to wait till I’m more experienced but it sure as hell doesn’t hurt to have dreams does it? I think mister Anon better get off his pedestal and just leave the newbie bashing alone, if not enourage them, like a REAL skydiver would do.
