Anyone have expierience with these?

Recommended Posts

I just rely on the visual of the tandem's AAD firing to know I should have pulled... :P

In all seriousness I think some of these things are a good idea if used properly. I think a good name of the game is to try and catch your altitude before the set-slightly-lower extra indicator goes off. If you always rely on the audible then an arguably less reliable item becomes your first line of defense.

Most useless "advancement" I've seen yet.

I agree Pizz. The only jumpers I see benefitting from these would be deaf jumpers. It would be a good "audible" for them.

Woo hoo!
My goal is to make every jump a fun and safe one. Blue skies!

***Skydive Radio did a review on the most recent episode. Seems really cool. I plan to get one. Any additional way to stay altitude aware makes sense to me!

Look at the logo on the helmet in the photo on Chuting Star. Seems that Skydive Radio guys took it? Is there a relationship between the show and this product?

I can't see the point in having one of these and an audible. It's hard to ignore the audible, but if you only have one, I guess this is as good.

Full disclosure, Elemental is a paid sponsor on Skydive Radio. What you heard was an advertisement not a review.

The photo in question is of my personal helmet. I've not made very many jumps on the unit yet because I've been super busy flying but so far I like it. I agree that selectable altitudes would be nice but as an added layer of awareness the pre-programed altitudes are working fine for me.

I bought one of these after seeing it at SDC. So far, I like it although I am getting more aware of it and not having to deliberately pay attenention to it. One more point in Elemental's favor is their customer service! Brian was was super responsive when I had a concern with my unit.

I would like to have one.

Those so quick to dismiss it are, in my opinion, nattering nabobs of negativity.:D

People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

"Nattering nabobs of negativity". Quote from Spiro Agnew.
Holy Batman!. Gotta be old to remember that one.

Actually, I think he said... "Pusillanimous pussyfooting nattering nabobs of negativism". Could probably google this one.

Ranks right up, (or down there) there with "Feckless Knave"
coined ( I think) by ol' Billy Shakespeare

I would have found this useful when i was doing free fly camera, i found it really hard to check my altimeter when in the middle of a routine (i routinely never checked it and relied on my audible). If id have had a light in my visual reference when i was getting close to the 45 sec mark, then i know i need to get the performers off screen. (you loose points when they freeze the screen on 45 secs and the guys are still in the frame)
At long last the light at the end of the tunell isnt an on coming train!!!

Thread resurrection!

Ha! I'd completely forgotten that I had heard about the Chroma. I was interested in the other thread about Elemental's other product, the Ion and saw that Chutingstar is selling it...pretty bad that I forgot...

The preselected altitudes are just fine with me, keep it simple and the price low. Probably better reliability also with no buttons. It would be a supplement to an audible. Many people have more than one audible, and I think the Chroma and an audible are at least as good if not better than 2 audibles.

Maybe to be put on the birthday or Christmas wish list.
