Slider stowes on the risers

Recommended Posts

I've done most of my jumps using a skytie to stow down my slider. It has worked out nicely, but when I changed canopy to a crossfire2, it started popping out of place every now and then.

I've seen a couple of rigs where the risers has a set of loops sown into the lower part of the risers, to stow the slider in place. Does anyone have any experiences with this?

Do different vendors have different ways of doing this? Are there any pros and cons with one or the other?

I had that problem with a couple of smaller 100sf ish canopies. I think the slide was too small/ didn't have enough slack in the slider once everything opened up. If you put a stow on the risers it would probably still pop up in the center and aggravate you/cause a big blind spot. The only thing I could think of was to get a removable slider but I switched canopies before then and haven't had a problem since. Maybe someone else will have a better idea. Id also like to know for future references!

As the poster above me has said, the slider keeps annoying you, as it is still around your head, rather than tied down. I have the "slocks", but I've got a skytie because of that, I couldn't see well when looking backwards.

I made my own using some square weave I had laying around. One on the back of each front riser keeps it pretty well stationary. Much more stable than the Skytie I had stolen off my rig.;)

A variation is to sew triangular "slider catchers" to the bottom of your risers.
Start with 1.5 inch wide, Type 4 tape. Hot cut 3 inches long. Fold (hot cut edges towards the center-line) into a triangle. Mark risers 2 inches from the crotch. Align selvage edge or triangle with alignment mark, folded tip up. Zig-zag the bejezuz out of it.
I call these triangular slider-catchers "Andreas' pattern" because that is who firt asked me to build them.
