PD reserve vs Aerodyne smart

Are the Smart slider grommets still plastic as opposed to the PD metal slider grommets?

I have a smart that is one of earlier production runs and it doesn't have plastic grommets. When was this being done?

.......................................................................

I have never seen a slider with plastic grommets.
Brass? Yes!
Stainless steel? Yes!
Aluminum? Yes!
But never plastic

I was thinking the same thing.. Then I had a moment of semi-brilliance... Maybe he was thinking the slider stops? I seem to recall that Aerodyne was using plastic stops as opposed to PD (not sure what they are using)... But, I've been wrong before...

Has anyone flown both of these reserves that can compare how they fly and land?

I found my smart 120 easier to land than the PD126R I have number of jumps on (as a main). The smart seemed to open slower (was a low-speed malfunction).
I liked both reserves, they're both better than other brands I've jumped. You cannot go wrong with either one IMO.

Slider STOPS, not grommets.

HEY!!! I thought STOPS really loud, that's just not what my fingers typed!! :D:D:D
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

PDr flaired like typical PD canopy.

Smart flaired like typical Aerodyne canopy.

That tells you alot.

If I had 20lbs of weight and loading it around 1.9 to 2.0 I would prefer PD.

At typical reserve wingload between 1.0 to 1.6, I would jump either one o them.

Please consider the limits:

SMART R:
Deployments: 10
Repacks: 20
Which ever is first the Smart should go back to the mfg. for tests & recertification.
No Box marking system on the canopy

PR / OP:
Deployments: 25
Repacks: 40
Which ever is first the PR/OP must go back to PD for tests & recertification.
Marking Box system on the canopy - easy track of history of Repacks / Deployments if were marked.

Both will save you when needed.

Cheers

The smart manual only says that porosity should be checked after 10 deployments/20 repacks, but it doesn't say how to check the porosity or that it must be done by the mfg (page 20 of their manual). Perhaps there is something else in the manual I overlooked.

You are correct - they never said how to perform the tests & who will perform it - this is a very good reason to sent it back to Aerodyne for the tests - at least it will come back certified by the MFG. & the owner knows the MFG. recertified his reserve after an APPROVED method of testing with the right tools.

PD reserve MUST be sent back to PD for that process.

Cheers
