Handle on the inside of pilot chute

Recommended Posts

we were jumping this weekend and a guy joined our group had his handle on the inside of his pc. It was made that way. He was a PJ. Is that a military item? It was on a racer container. Stowed it look like his PC was coming out. I'll see if i got it on video a post a picture,

Not sure about military, but some BASE pilot chutes do it that way too.

If you want to experiment, take a PC, chop the handle off and put an empty 35mm film canister inside at the apex. See how you like it. that's known as "internal floating handle". Make sure that you use a non-collapsible or a pc with a kill line attached to the apex and not to the handle that you are removing :)

The flight of a throwout PC requires it to fly past the bridle inviting more of a chance of PC bridle entanglement. Outer handles increase this possibility.
I and some other long time BASErs prefer no handle whatsoever on lower stowed jumps.

Take care,
