SpeedRacer 1 #2 March 24, 2003 I had to look up "gig" in the dictionary. Evidently it means to spear a fish. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
AggieDave 6 #3 March 24, 2003 Gig'em is a term in the Aggie lexicon. Gig'em can mean a lot of different things, including the following: Good Great Get them Beat them (sports stuff) You're right Yes No Hello goodbye Along with a few other things. In this context it means "Way to go Aggies, you're doing good!"--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

diverdriver 5 #5 March 24, 2003 It seems to be as useful as the word "fuck".
AggieDave 6 #6 March 24, 2003 Lore has it that it started on campus by a cadet by the name of Pinky Downs, when he was a Pisshead (sophomore, which are like DIs in the Corps of Cadets) he would inspect fish's (freshmen) uniforms and say "gig" when ever they had a cut (something wrong with the uniform, i.e. name tag not centered perfectly, a wrinkle, etc). Eventually people would see him walking around campus and say "Gig'em Pinky" saying go raise hell and get those fish (freshmen). That was in the late 1920s, and it sorta stuck. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

AggieDave 6 #9 March 24, 2003 Yup. Howdy is the except form, Gig'em gets used every once in a while.. i.e. "Howdy Dave, doing well?" "Gig'em" In that context it means "Hello John, yeah I'm doing pretty good, thanks for asking." --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
