Gear Bag Recommendation?

Recommended Posts

Quote

I recommend avoiding the Brand X bag from square 1 (the second link). It just falls apart. Mine lasted less than 6 months before I had a major repair done. First repair also failed about a year later so I had a whole second piece of fabric sewn across the entire top for reinforcing and thats been holding well for about 1.5 years now. Only plus is the outer pocket for a jumpsuit and the log book pocket.

The square 1 helmet bag works great for my factory diver and I throw my audible and alti in there too.

AGREED! I have patched mine several times due to the poor quality china made cordura fabric. On to the next.

Hi,
Don't know how much will be the transport tu US(they're from Croatia I think), but the bag is really a baragin for that price. Quality is really good. I've seen some bags treated really ad over the years and they are still in good conditions. There's enough space to put in a unpacked chute and container, fly suite, helmet and accesories. It has also some pockets for papers.Zippers are really good and have the inside protections that doesn't allow to catch-in the canopy material when zipping up if you are too tired to pack your canopy in the end of the day.

I have two of Pelican 1620s. One for gear and one for camera stuff. My wife has one for gear. They come with a lifetime warranty. They also double as something to sit on.

But would you like to pay for it?

If they
sell toilet seats to the gov't you know it's gonna be $$$$$$.

How about a trip to goodwill and get a used samsonite type suitcase with wheels, get some heavy duty foam to protect the camera stuff.

Still remember the ads of the big ape in the zoo beating the hell out of the samsonite:)

Problem is ya can never find a gorilla to move your gear when ya need one. ;)

The link said about 200 bones for the case in question...not bad for a lifetime guarantee.

I travel quite a bit and one thing I've learned is not to scrimp on luggage...B|

For what it's worth, we used the Pelican cases quite a bit in the military. They can break, but it is pretty fucking difficult to do.

I wouldn't expect any airliner handling to be able to break them.

A couple tips from someone that used to work in the baggage handling industry. The most important and only real rule, If anyone besides yourself is going to handle your bag do not use a duffle bag. There is nothing more infuriating then a duffle bag. They have no structural integrity, they don't stack well, and are generally a pain in the ass. This makes us dislike you and hate your bag. The result? We will purposely put your bag on the bottom and crush it into submission. If it doesn't go on the bottom we will cram it into any space to take up the maximum volume of whatever we are putting it in. This goes for the majority of bellman and airline handlers I have ever met. So if you don't want your stuff to get crushed don't get a duffle bag.

Now all of that being said. I use a standard overhead roller bag. I can fit my Rig, G3, and all the other little things in it. Jumpsuits go in the bag with my clothes. Any other valuables go in my second carry on. ie. small backpack.

I'm sure I will receive some hate for the baggage comment. I'm just telling you the truth. I wouldn't want my rig to be stuck on the bottom of an airliner luggage bay for any amount of time.

Best quality, will hold a small adult, and for less than the.materials. I've got two over the last year with similar discounts. And one big wheel load.out bag that will carry two rigs plus.

But my real gear bag is TWO older eddie bauer, when they used to really make something useful, duffle bags. One for the rig, open or closed, and one for everything else. Jumpsuits, helmets, electronics, spare clothes, etc. A separate duffle for each rig. I sometimes take three or four.

These are NOT for airline travel. Carry on in roller.

Many years ago, in 1980 or so, Performance Designs, before making canopies, was manufacturing skydiving accessories. I bought a gear bag from them at DeLand (with their logo and my name on it) and still have it after 34 years.;). It is made of cordura, and has an extra zipper to decrease the bag volume if needed. There is two side pockets and two extra "ranging poaches" located between the two normal pockets and the bag itself. Those are closed by Velcro while the pockets are zipper equiped. There are two handles plus shoulders adjustable straps with padding.
I have never seen a so good design. And the best is that my gear bag has never needed to be repaired other than the two Velcro to be changed. No sign of wear on any stitching at all.:)

Learn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all.
