I'm not a big fan of Arnold (except in the movies) but glad we're not where we were (IOW, anything is better than Davis). Maybe this is a sign of changes to come.

While initially everyone was calling this a right-wing conspiracy - it was, in the end - the people that voiced their will. Too bad this fact will be forgotten quickly - and the "right-wing media interrupted the process" (talk radio, Fox News, etc...) and "they (right-wing conspirators) stole the office" chanting will prevail.

Now - do I get a rebate on my Auto reg fees?

That is still subject to debate. There is some conjecture that an executive order to rescind it may not be obeyed by the controller or finance guy, who will cite a "law". We'll see. I only hope it gets resolved before next April.

Yes! I'm happy for him. Hopefully he'll be able to work with the legislature and get some things done, though I think the fact that about 80% of every tax dollar's destiny is predetermined in CA is an impediment he might not be able to overcome.

Still, he's a far better man than his predecessor or BustaMeCHA.

For those who want arnie to win. Can you please explain to me what he stands for? Do you even know his agendas and anything he plans on doing? or is it the fact that he is arnold?

Just curious of how many people out there know what he stands for other than the hype.

Peace

From his web-site, and published agenda:

1) Recind tripled VLF (car tax)
2) Freeze Spending Launch Audit
3) Call special legislative session to CUT spending and address imbalance of budget
4) Initiate a revenue vehicle from Indian Gaming
5) Renegotiate State Employee and Union contracts
6) Workers' Comp reform
7) Submit 04-05 budget that closes deficit and restructures inherited debt.
8) Streamline bureaucracy and pass $ savings to education budget
9) Repeal SB60 (drivers licenses for illegals)
10) Pass open govt amendment & ban fundraising during the budget process

That's his 100 day plan. Pretty concise.

If he gets all of that done, I'll be very impressed. Especially the renegotiation of those union contracts. Lefties will SCREAM bloody murder over that one.

Let me get this straight... you're happy because a rich, pretty, ignorant, know-nothing, manipulated-by-the-right, misogynistic movie star is put in place by a cyncial Republican operation that's bypassed the democratic process in a constitutionally invalid coup d'etat? That's what you're happy about?

Well, I'm glad someone's happy. I'm unhappy. I'm unhappy because the people of this state have just demonstrated their ignorance of history, their ignorance of the basic tenets of democracy, their ignorance that there's a difference between a leader and someone who plays one in the movies.

But it'll all work out... I'll stay unhappy because I know that Arnold is just a figurehead for the same interests that fucked California in the energy scam; you'll be happy because you have no idea that's what's really going on.

Actually you sound bitter.

You sure about that? I think most leaders are just actors. So in this case we'll be fine, like you said. I guess you really know what's going on.

You're right. I'm happy a self-made, talented busienssman, well educated, world renowned, married to a Kennedy was elected in a recall election as part of a provision of an 82 year old law on the books of the California Republic as part of the democratic process.

...don't be alarmed by the pop sound you may be hearing as you read up on what a Federal Republic and autonomous states of a Republic are about.

edit to add: Nevermind, you're in Berkley, you won't get it and you'll hear no popping sound.

Dude - you missed the point - whether it was a far-right initiative when it started out is no longer important. The far right didn't get the people out in record numbers to clearly indicate that they believe this state is in dire jeopardy. And a coup d'etat is a hostile take-over by a faction without the people's involvement or consent. This is clearly not the case here.

Uhhh... hello? I think democracy is exactly what was just demonstrated.

The people have spoken. If they want to recall Arnold they have that right - but as bad a shape as this state is in I think there is little more he could do to make it worse than his predecessor did.

p.s., and I'm not pro Arnold.

What in the HELL are you talking about? California Republic? It's a state of the union, bound by the Constitution, which says that recalls are reserved for cases of criminal wrongdoing.

Ok, fine, throw in some cheap ad hominem attacks. Let me know where you live, so I can make some crude generalization about your politics.

Let me rephrase: "Dude - you missed the point - whether the Nazi's ascension to power was a far-right initiative when it started out is no longer important. A coup d'etat is a hostile take-over by a faction without the people's involvement or consent. This is clearly not the case here; no, The Nazi party came to power democratically, with the full backing of a populace looking for strong leadership bearing simple, comforting answers to fears about the economy and the influx of foreigners".

Don't think it can happen here? Neither did they.

Do you think this is really about the popular will? Don't make me laugh. It's a cyncial manipulation of the public's insecurity and ignorance. Do you think Schwartzenegger is going to be the one making policy? Please... why do you think he met with Ken Lay already?

And don't misunderstand me... the historical Nazi analogy has nothing to do with Schwarzenegger's national origin.

ROTFLMAO... that was a stretch.

Seriously though, that is a far stretch from where we are - and the argument when liberalism is threatened is to shout "nazi-ism"... and to think that most people ingnore that where we were going (and still are until, hopefully, changes are made) is clearly socialistic...

There has to be a middle-ground - and that's where our form of democracy tends to keep us.
Now we're starting to swing the other way and it's driving the socalists nuts.

Naw, he isn't a self made talented business man...he came to America with exactly $0 and just a few changes of clothes and had made nearly $2,000,000 in 8 years through some very good investments from his IFBB earnings.

Once he conquered the IFBB (7 times), he turned his eyes on the movies (yeah, he'd been in a couple, but nothing big up to this point). He spent a LOT of time getting trained as an actor, voice lessons, etc. His dedication and hard work paid off again, he became a successful actor.

He then wanted to get involved with politics, the self proclaimed republican got involved with the 1988 Presidental Election, stumping for Bush/Quale. This is after Arnie had spent a considerable amount of time and money helping the Special Olympics. Bush then appointed him the chair of the Presidental Coucil on Fitness. Arnold traveled to all 50 states promoting good eating, clean living and physical fitness to kids. He did that out of his own pocket!

So, yup, everyone is right, he's been manipulated by a vast right-wing conspirarcy and is not to be trusted. He was not a successful businessman and he has no drive or dedication.

Has hell frozen over?

60% (Arnold/McClintock combined) of the votes went to a Republican. And now the First Lady elect in California is a Kennedy. Olde Ted just received the George Bush award. Weird things are happening.:P

Now there is speculation that Gov. elect Arnold will be a major presence at the Republican National Convention. Will Maria be standing by his side?

I picture Olde Ted on the phone right now with his liquor distributor.:S

Anyone see the exit polls? Quite a few people said they came out and voted for Arnold because Howard Stern endorsed him. I don't know whether Arnold's good or bad for governor. Haven't really looked into it much since I don't live there. But I think it's pretty f'd up that so many people are influenced to vote by a talk show host. Good evidence that general elections are just popularity contests and those who spend the most will almost always win.

I'm not sure what amount quite a few means in this instance. I'd be supprised if the amount was even in the thousands. Seems like more spin from his detractors. But then again, the stripper got 8 thousand votes.
