Reserve pilot chute spring force

Recommended Posts

Is there a minimum spring force for a reserve pilot chute? I looked in AS8015 and tso requirements and couldn't find it. I remember the RI service bulletin which said 18lbs at 1 inch. Is there an official number?

I've never seen that complilation before.

But, these are manufacuter's specs. There is no requirement in the TSO standards, old or proposed. The TSO test standards are performance based (opening speed, opening distances, not breaking on heavy drops, etc) not design based. Any spring that works, or no spring if it still works, is acceptable.

And of course some military chest mounts can have the PC removed all together.;)
