Snow Skiing......Where????

Recommended Posts

I'd like to go on a ski trip sometime in January or February 2004. I've already been to Lake Tahoe, Steamboat, Vail, Copper Mountain, Keystone & Breckenridge. I'd luv to go back to any one of these places, but thought it would be nice to venture off somewhere new!

Got any favorite places to ski that I should visit????

Thanx in advance............Casie

Jackson Hole, Wyoming has always treated me well. I believe that it's not as high (MSL) as Breck is, so breathing is a bit easier :) Also supposedly one of the best powders in US. In fact we are scheduled to be ther Christmas week...

either way - big mountain=big fun

Banff in Canada is unlike anything you've ever skiied.

Go, you will be awestruck.

I've heard great things about skiing in Canada! I'm no expert & will only do greens/blues......will this still be ok for me?

I used to do alot of traveling between Calgary / Edmonton and Houston. I always loved my trips to Calgary (yes even in the winter) I would have to agree with AndyMan on this one. I'm not a skiier but Banff will steal your breath just standing looking out over the view.

Plus the money conversion rate US to Canadian is close to 1.5 ($1us = $1.5can) You can normally find roundtrips from Houston to Calgary in the $450-500 range. Not sure where your starting location is, but it's got to be pretty close. :)

I dont do anything that resemble a diamond run, and there are enough resorts at Banff to keep you busy... Lots of good restaurants in town too. Sunshine is great...

If you have the $ and want to treat yourself, book a room at the Banff Spring Resort (http://www.fairmont.com/FA/en/CDA/Home/Hotels/AboutHotel/CDHotelHomePage/0,2993,property%25255Fseq%253D100100,00.html) Its expensive, but awsomely beautifull.

If you have more frugal tastes, then I'd recommend the Caribou hotel in town: great location, and nice.

For info on Banff, go to http://www.discoverbanff.com/

And the exchange rate is actually about $1US = $1.30Cdn ... it's improving (for us, anyway)

Banff is BEAUTIFUL and it has some awesome skiing. You won't be disappointed.

As was mentioned before, you can't beat the Alps. Canada is usually consistent with great skiing. As for America, you have to watch the jetstream to see whether it is the west or east that is getting dumped on.

Have fun.

Jayruss is right...the Big Mountain in Montana is great. I lived in Trego, Montana for two years and skied the mountain quite a bit. It's breathtaking, low to no lift lines, not crowded like most resorts, down homey atmosphere, good people, great ski shop, cool instructors if ya' need 'em and POWDER!!!

I agree with Phree about Tao. Haven't been to Angel Fire, but Taos is absolutely awesome. Red River is in the area, too, so there are several ski areas.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Taos Ski Valley Resort
skiing in the southern Rocky Mountains near Taos, New Mexico. Offers snow reports. No snowboarding.

I went to Taos Ski Valley (New Mexico) last year. It is some of the best skiing there is. But I must warn you this is an advanced mountain. Their greens are like blues; blues are like blacks; etc. The mountain is covered with moguls. So if you like moguls, you'll like this mountain.
Also Angelfire isn't too far away as well. So you can always skip over there for a day if ya want to.
