Sure they may not haul you into the rose garden and execute you, but try to publish in a major journal and see how far you get. Noam Chomsky, a professor of linguistics at MIT and one of the sharpest political analysts I've come across, is a great example of this. The guy has some excellent points, firmly based on rationality and objectivity, but he is widely ignored.
