Anniverary 100 way?

Recommended Posts

Somewhat related, and mentions something about freefallers :S..

From the CRW mailing list:

Hi All,

I returned home, last night, from a "once in a lifetime" CRW/Skydiving event: 10 CRW Dogs jumped into the Centennial of Flight Celebration at Kill Devils Hill near Kitty Hawk, NC.

Paul Fayard (Carolina Sky Sports) put together a 10 minute skydiving event, as requested, to honor the top 100 people who impacted aviation throughout history.

The CRW Dogs were the highlight of the jump, as we built a 10-way kite and flew it in toward the landing zone. The formation was picturesque as it provided the spectators with a beautiful 10-way kite along side the monument atop Kill Devil Hill.

Jackson Hoffman coached us all through a great skydive, and ded a great job coordinating everything.

But the highlight of the CRW weekend came on the Monday's third practice jump, where the CRW Dogs landed last (as planned), with 89 freefallers at the CSS DZ. We did a slot-perfect 10-way, flew it around, then broke for landing. We flew a "snake" into landing where everyone ooohed and aaahed.

In writing this, I realize I didn't capture Paul Fayard's quote to the group ... so if anyone there knows it, please share it with the group.

The CRW Participants were: Jackson, Raul, Rusty, Sparky, Alan Gutshall, Chuck, Buz, Chico, Joel and

It was a blast, and I saw our kite shown on FoxNews last night (10 PD canopies in a 10-way Kite). The Kitty Hawk Chamber of Commerce President grabbed two of us after the event and told us we stole the show.

It was a fantastic event, of which I was proud to be a part. I only wish the freefallers had recognized how much more attractive CRW is to an audience, and they had included the 25-way diamond they originally wanted.

Blue Skies all, and Have a great Holiday season,

-Buz

PS. Our cameraman did not have a digital camera, so there are no photos, yet.

Yep, here is an article about it. There were 3 people from my DZ in the freefall portion of it.

If I find any pics of the formations I'll post them.

There is another thread going here with some great stories about it.

The CRW Dogs were the highlight of the jump...

Well, the CReW dogs were good, but some of the other groups might dispute their claim that *they* were the highlight.

The 16-way that spelled out "USA" in the sky was fantastic also.

I was already on the ground nearby, and he was hollering excitedly something to this effect: "See that everyone! See that! That's what I want *everyone* to do!"

I didn't hear anyone poo-pooing the CRW jumpers. We all thought you guys were great. However, we also think that RW is great for the audience.

It was truly an honor to be a part of that memorable jump!

The crew dogs did a wonderful job...
and i'm sure the post didn't intend to sound like
the rest of us were there as 'support' to them.:P

The whole focus of the jump was to have 100
canopies open and in the air at once!

Which happened, ..
and WAS impressive! :)
Our group was told that not one jumper or group
was to be singled out,
and no attempts to 'steal the show' would be tolerated.

Which is why I didn't utilize any of the specialized
show demo gear I dragged all the way there...:|

...any why the downplane guys were asked
to re-choreograph their part.

It was the event of a lifetime for sure! :$

I jumped the Dayton International Air Show
this summer...

The home of the Wright Brothers.

There,
some of the performers were given a
Sterling Silver 'Wright Flyer' pin..
One of a hundred created as 'special gifts'
for aviation VIP's attending the show... :)

I wore mine into the Kitty Hawk demo...B|
Making it the coolest tie tack I will EVER own!

Our "Texas 20 Way" came off without a hitch!

No Shit..There I Was...
After diving on the base,
I'm looking across the building formation at our
organizer, Roger Ponce...who was grinning ear to ear!
Glen Bangs, the USPA President docking on my leg as 'JohnRich' and 'Sparky' flying SHIT HOT,
...swoop their slots on the other side! :)

Built fast and flyin' solid...stingers burning smoke,
I looked straight down 9000 feet, at the monument
built and dedicated to the bicycle building brothers
from Dayton.

Wondering what THEY would be thinking today,
were they on site...
Looking Back Up! :$:$:$

Kudos' to the Fayards for making the event
run smooth and safe.

My first time at Carolina Sports Center and I
felt at home...won't be my last time there for sure!

And... "Hats Off" to Al Saylor, B|
'our' group organizer ...
for putting together such a fantastic bunch.
The guy ROCKS!
Our Casa was delayed an hour an a half behind
all the other planes returning to the DZ,
due to confusion on refueling by the airport ground crew.

Gave some of us an opportunity to walk around
the Air Show Performers static displayed aircraft...
But not old 'Saylor!' :)

...As we were preparing to FINALLY [:/]
get on our way for the hour flight back to the DZ,
I'm throwing on my rig...
and look across the tarmac to see the 'boss' running in.

FOUR CASES OF BEER IN HIS ARMS!
That guy ROCKS! B|B|B|

Sure hope I get asked to be on the
200 year jump in 2103!!!

Our exit altitude was just over 13,000 and break off had to be at 7,000. We were complete high enough to hold it for 7 sec. You do the math.

I will for ever be proud to be part of that extraordinary group of skydivers.
