Afghanistan mortar attack

I assume that the explosions on the mountain were U.S. trying to arty the enemy morter right?

Yep....Counter Battery Fire....the Army has this REALLY neat toy called Q-36 radar. It pinpoints where the incoming shells originated. Of course....it would be somewhat limited by the mountainous terrain. Those Taliban mortarmen where pretty good though. It only took them 2 rounds to adjust into the compound. I wonder if they know about things like Q-36. ;) I'm sure they ended up having a bad day. Those looked like 82's....but it's just a guess. Where's Coconut Monkey?

That was a pretty good video. In fact when it started I had to take the headphones off and check to make sure we werent getting mortared:S. We had incoming last night, scared the shit out of me. I think that we have some vids of the 155's shooting back. I really don't think that its a fair trade off though. THey shoot 60mm mortars and we beat the crap out of them with 155's. The Q-36 is cool, and has come in useful.
The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

IMO the audio was a added bonus to the video. The running comments were priceless. The good guy's were either pro's or rookies, never been been in that situation so don't know.

Those guy's were concerned about picking up their gear befor finding a hole! Later with that, I be clicking my heels and going back to kansas after the first puff of smoke.

R.I.P.
