crapflinger2000 1 #1 February 7, 2004 No, not a debate about whatever, just a simple question... Remember back in the war, some Marine CO, I think he was a regimental CO, got canned in the middle of the war for some reason, all hush hush... Anybody know why that guy got canned? __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
osuskydiver 0 #2 February 7, 2004 Maybe he wanted to join the real militray so he cross branched to the Army? seriosuly though I do not even remember that, is there an article somehwere? By the time you read this you have already read it.
nbblood 0 #3 February 7, 2004 I know of an Army commander that was "asked to retire" due to something he did, but I really don't want to elaborate. NathanBlues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
McDuck 0 #4 February 7, 2004 Was it the guy who had supposedly used "harsh" methods of interrogation? I think I remember hearing something about that, but I've slept since then. kmcguffee 0 #7 February 7, 2004 In the Army, when a commander was relieved from command and kept quiet it was usually for something like cowardice or incompetence. I don't know what this guy was relieved for though. Maybe they discovered he could read. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." rjf98 0 #8 February 7, 2004 Allright soldier boys... you don't have to get mean and nasty just because the CINC is calling us back to do the work you boys can't seem to finish Hey guys: I was there when Col Dowdy was relieved. Stuff happens. I can tell you it had nothing to do with him breaking any kind of laws of war. I can also tell you that Joe Dowdy can't be called a coward by any man. By the way. The army crack was just that... a crack. The 82nd is doing great things, and I think they have set the stage well for us to come in and finish things up during transition from povisional authority to Iraqi elections. At least that's what they told me to say if I was asked by a reporter

kmcguffee 0 #10 February 7, 2004 That was an Army Battalion Commander not the Marines. He was relieved and Court Martialed. I'm not sure what the final outcome was though. He discharged a pistol "in the vicinity" of a captives head in order to determine the location of some enemy mines or IEDs. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." I believe the rumor in the press at the time was that he was not being aggressive enough. Nothing official was ever said that I recall.... kmcguffee 0 #12 February 7, 2004 LOL, in my cubicle at work there is a former Navy officer, a former Marine officer, a former AirForce NCO, and me, a former Army officer. This kind of stuff goes on aaaaaalllllllllll day long. Ever wonder why things get done slowly in the Federal Government? "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do."
