riddler 0 #55 February 18, 2004 I've had a few guys in the AFF classes I taught tell me they didn't want to do a tandem with a guy strapped to them, so they opted for the AFF class. It's about 8 hours long (since I teach slow ), and they did one jump and never came back. Seems like a lot to go through for one jump. To each their own.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. I did 2 tandems, which was what introduced me to skydiving. The furthest thing from my mind was that I would be strapped to some guy. A tandem is not a sexual experience in the slightest. I found it to be a way for me to experience skydiving as a tourist...period. BTW, my tandem master and I have since become really good friends. I'll be attending his wedding this year. He also coached me in the tunnel. I think they are more chicken and using the homophobic angle as an excuse. The guys in our group never said a WORD about having a guy strapped to their asses and they are straight, macho... Tandem Masters are WAY to busy to swoon over your friends hairy asses. They have to worry about their performance, their equipment, as well as the mental state of their passenger. Some people get up there and panic and start fighting, which puts everyone in danger. I've seen people land and get cursed OUT for doing something dangerous and told they will NEVER be flown again. Tell your friends to go AFF or SL and see what their excuse will be then. While I have met several competent female tandem instructors, few of them seem to last in the long run. Their bodies just don't seem to stand up to the physical abuse of tandems. By the same token, I am nursing a sprained knee tendon this winter and another of our male TIs is bugging his surgeon to get some knee cartilage repaired. Homophobia can be a fun thing for TIs to play with, especially when they are tandeming with young Marines from Camp Pendleton. Those guys are OFFICALLY homophobic, however they also have enough respect for authority figures (i.e. skydiving instructors) that you can tease them a bit without loosing your teeth. Hah! Hah! I enjoy making fun of things I don't understand. On a similar note, will someone please explain to me why most armies are OFFICIALLY homophobic? Hi Kris, cutie, I was a student at Perris in April prior to your tandem in late September, and I met the female tandem instructor and AFF coach that I had mentioned in my earlier post. I forgot her name, but I was recently informed that her name is Tammy Hart. She is said to sometimes post here. (Hi Tammy! Anyway, I heard that she blew her knee out at the end of last winter. Then, she worked in Baldwin all last summer. At the end of the season, she had her knee worked on. I was told that she won't be working at Perris again until next winter because she goes to Baldwin for summertime. She has been at Perris for a few years, I believe.
