Javelin x Vector 3. Which one is more safety ?

Recommended Posts

They are both safe until used by a skydiver.

doesn't get any more true than that!

Both rigs are mfg to TSO C23(d), so I don't think that one is more safe than the other from a mechanical point of view.

I'd think selection would boil down to other things, like fit, materials; basically, personal preference and experience.

While Javelins built after 2001 are built under C23d, I don't remember and can't find anything that says that Vector3's ever went through C23d testing. Couldn't find any TSO information in the most current UPT manual.

Vector3's Wonderhogs are still under 23b I believe.

I assembled and packed a brand-new one a couple days ago.

I own V3 but I think J is more sexeh... B| too bad their delivery time was more than half a year when I was shopping for a rig.

I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense. -David Thorne

The one with the pilot chute launching the highest ie The VECTOR III. In case of an AAD firing, that feature will more likely make you avoid a PC hesitation when the time is precious.
Learn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all.

Wise choice;), exactly what I did! Lol picked it up during the skydive expo.

Also can someone elaborate the difference between C23b and C23d? Are they just more strict regulations in order receive the c23d sort of a higher requirement of safety? I'm assuming UPT chooses not to get the 23d because of the additional cost?? Nonetheless I will always believe in my V3 to save my life lol

Gear manufactured under TSO-C23b is tested to standards in NAS-804 which was approved in 1949. Gear manufactured under TSO-C23d is tested to the standards in AS-8015B.
I have sent a copy of both documents to your email address.

Hi champ,

I will assume that you have gotten my reply to your PM.

This brings up something that I have given a lot of thought to in the past few years:

Does anyone purchasing new gear really make a decision based upon which version of the TSO that the gear was certificated under?

So, how about you, mchamp; what do you say?

You did ask the question? :P

JerryBaumchen

PS) I, personally, do not think that people care about which TSO gear is certificated under.

I think it only fair for me to speak up as I'm the one who introduced TSOs into the discussion.. My goal was to show that a standard for manufacturing had been met by both companies and it was basically a level playing field. The info I had was erroneous and have since made a clarification in a follow up post.

Most certainly did receive your reply and much appreciated!

In response to your question, personally I did not choose my rig based on TSO certifications but was solely curious about the differences. I highly doubt that any people choose to purchase their rig upon TSO certifications as modern rigs nowadays are just about all quite safe and secure. I would also go as far as to say that 95% of people that are not riggers would not know the difference between different TSO's.

I chose my rig upon pin protection, riser covers, freely friendly, and the safety options and choice of materials.
