Danl 0 #2 March 10, 2004 Yes indeed. Another of Heinlein's inventions is finally being made. This was described in Starship Troopers.

rjf98 0 #4 March 11, 2004 I've seen this before. I'm usually all over the techno gadgets, but this is definetly not where the military will end up. This is going to be for some sort of civilian engineering / excavation work, or possibly for those who for medical reasons can no longer walk on their own. Well, right now it has a lot of problems as far as size and noise goes, but I think something like this is a pretty interesting item and we probably have even begun to really thing of all of the different uses for a platform like this. For example, if you just were to add arms using the same technology, maybe you could have some sort of new device for lifting heavy objects in a very small space. A sort of man sized fork lift.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
LouDiamond 1 #6 March 11, 2004 That is already an old idea that has been improved on. Currently the Military is looking at a full body version that is being developed. The civilian uses have already been identified and deemed viable, especially for those who may need assistance walking or who can't currently walk on their own right now. The industry use is much like what we saw in Aliens where one could use it to lift/move loads larger than humanly possible."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
