This may very well be the greatest thing that's ever happened to me! HOW WONDERFUL!!! Awright, enough trying to blow sunshine up my own ass...who's been there? What did you do? Besides a whole bunch o' beers...which I am starting now... Oh and thanks to Turtle for listening to me whine about it! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Rainbo 0 #3 March 9, 2004 Yeah, it's really cool the first couple of months I am supposed to hear about a 6 month contract job tomorrow. Of course that is to document a companies manufacturing processes so they can move it to Mexico, I am sure I will be loved in that plant.Rainbo TheSpeedTriple - Speed is everything "Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting." CrazyIvan 0 #5 March 9, 2004 I didn't get any notice before getting laid off, but, the first 2 months were fun, relaxing and jumping, then money ran out, so, now, I'm doing what I can to save some money, buy a plane ticket to India and get a job. __________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. RevJim 0 #6 March 9, 2004 QuoteYeah, it's really cool the first couple of months Uh huh. Vacation for WFFC 2003. When you get back from IL, don't come back. There won't be any trucks to come back to. Cool at first. Got lots done on my house, but man o man, I'm ready to get the heck outta here, pronto. So, yea, unemployed since the first of August basically. It's your life, live it! ACMESkydiver 0 #8 March 9, 2004 I know Jeanne...well apparently the sending me all over was to get me ready for these important few months...then leave me for the wolves... The nice thing is the top top top people actually told us in person. At least that was pretty classy of them, and I'll stick it out until the cut-off date. I've got people that are really depending on me that had nothing to do with the decision to cancel my position, and I really don't want to let them down.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. flyangel2 2 #11 March 9, 2004 This is perfect timing for you. Think of all the boogies and DZ you can visit this summer. I was laid off right before the WFFC of 2002. Just played, and enjoyed myself till the unemployment ran out. quade 4 #12 March 9, 2004 Hey. It can be pretty harsh. I worked for a company for 29 years and one Friday morning the boss's boss called me into the office. 10 minutes later I was out the door. No good-byes or anything. Didn't get the chance to download my contacts off my email address book. Nothing. That was October 10, the day "Kill Bill Volume 1" was released. I think I'm -always- going to remember the day "Kill Bill" was released. Anyway, it's been almost 5 months now with very little prospects in sight. Oh, there have been the occasional consulting gig, but nothing steady. What I -really- don't understand about your situation is why they'd give you notice -months- in advance. While it would seem pretty heartless to do it the way my company did, from a management stand point, I also understand it. Giving the employee months to cause mischief . . . that's just nutty. Oh, one more thing. File for the unemployment checks the day you're laid off. It's the only thing that makes any financial sense.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
riddler 0 #13 March 9, 2004 Quotea few months notice That much notice is unusual - consider yourself very lucky. Most I ever got was three weeks, and I was glad for that. Definitely put a lot of effort into finding another job. I give you a 25% chance that after a few months, your company tells you they still need you. By then you've found another job, so be sure to tell them that you're worth more money now Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
skydiver30960 0 #14 March 9, 2004 Dude, being unemployed ROCKS. Take the time you have left to save a little ching, figure out how to make the unemployment $$$ go as far as possible, and HAVE FUN. Lee03 0 #15 March 9, 2004 who's been there? What did you do? Besides a whole bunch o' beers...which I am starting now... ------------------------------------------------------------ What did I do, well, I retired from the service (not by choice) in Feb of 2002. I was able to find a job one year aftrer I retired. They job lasted 4 months, then pfffft gone. Been looking for a job ever since. Applied all over, interviews out the ass, All has been fruitless. I have had two interviews in the last 11 days. Know no more now, than I did before I had them. "we'll call you and let you know." Phone hasn't rung. What do you do? no job, no money, in debt, can't jump, hope rapidly slipping away. Any wonder I sometime feel like I don't want to get out of bed in the morning? -------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule

akarunway 1 #17 March 9, 2004 I just quit a job making (gross) $ 2000 a week today on general principals. Safety issues mainly. Hope a poor apprentice doesn't die on that one. Always a General Forman (any boss) trying to make a name for himself to the detriment of others . Fuck em. And they thought my camcorder was just for skydiving. Giving the employee months to cause mischief . . . that's just nutty. ...the deal is I am one of the few people in the country that can train this region on a new system. I will be getting a contract in writing in the next few days that would guarantee my employment through 'X' date. Afterwards, who knows?? The potential to be a jobless skydiver for a while is attractive... As of this moment, the company and I have a perfect symbiotic relationship through that date...I need the paycheck, they need my expertise. ltdiver 3 #21 March 9, 2004 Sorry about your misfortune! I've been there, done that more times than I'd like to count. Some have been from downsizing, others I've found a better opportunity and moved on. The most notice I've been given was 2 months (hospital that was downsizing ALL their departments across the board), the least was 2 weeks (they hired me before they looked at their statistic flow). The medical field is different than corporate business. For the most part we're patient centered, not self-centered....so everyone wins. The only time there is an instant lay-off is when someone has ALREADY been written up on a travesty of conduct and didn't heed the warning. That can be instant dismissal. Got to say, though, that the most sweet departure of all was when -I- gave -them- notice AND applied for unemployment. The company fought me, but EDD came down on my side and made them pay!! Now, I have the most awesome job with others who care for our clients as much as I do. Enjoy your mini-retirement. Yeah, it hurts to be let go, but you get over that soon enough when something better comes your way. And it will. Trust me. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

rjf98 0 #24 March 9, 2004 GI Bill can be for any certification program that the VA decides is ok. If we could get USPA to call up the MGIB folks and talk to them about an AFF instructor track and a Tandem instructor track you could use it for vocational education. Hell you can use it for pilot training if you already have your private pilot, so why not skydiving instructor if you already have your C license???? I really wanted to use that for my AFF but didn't have the time to make it work. You might ACME?
