metalslug 31 #1 March 13, 2004 The "What's your 5" thread got me started on this: Has anyone watched a film that was really close to home ? I didn't think Vanilla Sky was such a great film, but I just had to buy the DVD for nostalgia reasons and some interesting parallels to my own life: In the week that Vanilla Sky was released, I had just broken up with someone... (1) My first name is David. The lead character in the film is David Aames. (2) My girl was Spanish. Penelope Cruz is Spanish and was similar in appearance in many ways. (3) Our pet-names for each other were 'tomcat' and 'catwoman'. At exactly 1 hour and 3 minutes into the film, Peneleope Cruz has a bizarre script line: "I'll tell you in another life, when we are both cats." Tom Cruise echos this same line at the end of the film: "I'll see you in another life, when we are both cats." I have no idea what prompted the writers to add that to their script ...but it gave me cold chills to hear it.

Dagny 0 #3 March 13, 2004 I bought "Living Out Loud" with Holly Hunter and Danny Devito because I connected with it when I saw it for personal reasons. I still like the movie. It reminds me of where I came from and where I'm trying to go. I think movies can affect us just as much as books. I own books for nostalgic reasons, too. Maybe it's just human nature to relate to other people, other things...even ficitonal things.Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali

chaoskitty 0 #6 March 13, 2004 I watched "Magnolia" right after living through my grandad dying of cancer.. and the way the father in the movie died was exactly the same way.. down to the conversation the doctor had with the family. There were several other paralles in that movie that freaked me out.. except the raining frogs part, that was just weird. I dont remember specifics and I dont want to watch that movie again.
