ltdiver 3 #1 March 30, 2004 Sundance Film Festival's Film, "Super Size It". For this year's Sundance Film Festival Morgan Spurlock produced a eye opening film on America's fast food diet. He went on a fast food McDonald's diet for 3 meals a day, and when asked at the counter if he wanted to "super size it" he had to accept. In only one month, his weight rose by 30 pounds and the doctors who were monitoring him made some very interesting findings! "Neither Spurlock, 33, nor the three doctors who agreed to monitor his health during the experiment were prepared for the degree of ruin it would wreak on his body. Within days, he was vomiting up his burgers and battling with headaches and depression. And his sex drive vanished." More from the web page....Yuck! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
SpeedRacer 1 #2 March 30, 2004 weird. but you can get somewhat healthy food at McDonalds, like grilled chicken and salads etc. Did he deliberately order the most greasy, fat-laden thing everytime? Amazon 7 #3 March 30, 2004 Part of the success of losing 60 pounds in 2003 was NOT going to any FAT food restaurant...I slipped a bit this winter and my scale started telling me the truth..... but am back on the salads and massive quantities of dead animal parts... none of them ground I might add... just bring on the large slabs. CornishChris 5 #4 March 30, 2004 This proves one thing in my opinion. That is: Eat too much, get fat. Wow - stop the presses!! McDonalds is not designed to be a three times daily meal is it? is anything. What happened to a balanced diet? If he had had to eat three chinese meals a day and had to accepty rice when offered he would probably be in a simalar vomiting boat. That goes into my list of all time top worst studies. ltdiver 3 #6 March 30, 2004 QuoteWhat happened to a balanced diet? I eat a balanced diet. You sound like you do too. Yet, this film makes a very stark point that most of America has a problem with doing the same. They might not eat McDonalds every day, but they -do- eat too much of the wrong thing consistently. And the Fast Food industry does have a very large part in it. Not everyone has the discipline to do the right thing (or even know what the right thing is). ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
VectorBoy 0 #7 March 30, 2004 There was nothing wrong with his diet, he just forgot to drink his burbon to keep the side effects of that diet away. I saw the film at the South by Southwest Film Festival. His rules were that he must eat everything on the menu (including salads and water), and he could only "Super Size It" if he was asked to by the McDonald's staff (he was asked nine times in the course of the experiment). His research showed that there were more calories in the McDonald's salad with dressing than in the McDonald's Big Mac. The McDonald's yogurt actually had more calories than the McDonald's sundae because the yogurt comes with toppings. It was a really interesting documentary, and I didn't find it to be nearly as manipulative as I had expected. I can't say the same for Bush's Brain (I saw the two films back-to-back), which started out strong but went off track about halfway into the film. --DouvaI don't have an M.D. or a law degree.
