Mirage M6 /w 170

Recommended Posts

i dont recommend it, the sizing chart is saying a 190 is soft, meaning its lose inside of the tray...are you looking to buy gear or trying out a new canopy? ill be there tomorrow if you want to talk to a real person too, tons of knowledgeable people there to talk to as well.

Just a new canopy. The Lotus 190 I have now packs pretty nicely with a little bit more due to the airlocks.

My big concern is having stretched the container/d-bag (maybe) so much that putting a 170 would definitely make it too soft.

Come and find me, my bright-ass rig is easy to spot (yellow/red). B|

I am GUESSING here, but it's a fairly educated guess.

I packed a fairly used Spectre 190 into an M5 (one size smaller main packtray than an M6) and it fit soft, but well. Being that the Lotus 170 is an airlocked 9cell, and assuming that the one you are getting is fairly new, I am guessing that it will fit soft, but safe into an M6.

as per PIA, the Vengeance 170, which is another airlocked canopy has a volume of 522cu inches, which is a little large than a Sabre 190 with microlines. Based on this, I further support my guess.

Of course talking to Mirage would help, but you'll have to wait until Monday.

good luck

Thanks for the tip.

I'll have to call Mirage next week and ask.

I also emailed Brian Germain to ask what the volume of the 190 v. 170; to get an idea.

Keep in mind, the rig (used) came with a Spectre 210 that I flew a couple times before going to the 190. (So I don't know the volume of the Spectre 210 v. Lotus 190)

I'll take a picture and post my current Lotus 190 in the D-Bag when I get to packing it in the morning. :P

Personal experience going few years back:
Mirage M5 with fairly new Lotus 190 (everything was less than 50 jumps) - and that was real bitch to get into the d-bag, i wish i had M6 for it. Then i packed the same rig with Pilot 168 later on and that was much better fit, well the whole rig esthetically looked much better.

Rig might get "softened" a bit with more jumps you put on it - that's true,(just all that brand new stiffness goes away) but i don't think you'll get the same effect with d-bags, unless it's compleately worn out, but i still doubt.

For clarification, here are some pictures of my current Lotus 190 pro-packed with my M6-sized Mirage.

What do you guys think about accommodating a Lotus 170 in the same configuration?

Edit: To add, Brian Germain has said the Lotus 170 is ~10% larger than a nonairlocked 170 (depending on dryness of location).

Thanks

Thanks to Brian, Serg, likestojump, and folks at Elsinore for all the help. I hope this post helps someone else in the same situation.

The Lotus 170 fits perfectly and actually looks better than I thought.

Now only if Southern California can get rid of this damn rainy weather...
