ne146t9 0 #26 August 6, 2004 QuoteI have XP, isn't there also a way to go back and reconfigure from the past? Yes but almost all of these type of hijacks will copy themselves into the restore files too so it does no good. One thing you do to clean them is turn off the restore as to delete all the restore files then when you are done turn it back on. If you want to try though just go to start, programs, accessories. system tools, then click on system restore. Later, Tracy

nightjumps 1 #28 August 6, 2004 Quote"about:blank" in the address bar... it was a freakin nightmare trying to get rid of that thing on my home pc (at the time these removal programs didn't exist... so it involved a lot of registry tweaking and hidden program searching). No doubt. That thing wore me out. Trickly little b@#$tard...weren't it?
peacefuljeffrey 0 #29 August 6, 2004 QuoteThe cause of this error is most likely because you have some kind of spyware/adware/parasite installed on your computer. You could try these steps to eliminate the problem. You know what's really fuckin' dismal? Realizing that for all the wonderful things that computers can do for us, to make life efficient, fun, and informative, we are utterly unable to keep this venue from coming under attack from those who would pervert it through malicious and damaging attacks, or profit-whoring commercialist pollution. Trying to keep the internet free of the sickness that makes it a tribulation to use (viruses, spam, hacking, identity theft, etc.) is like trying to chew a mouthful of gum and a mouthful of peanuts simultaneously, and not fuck up one with the other. And once they're mingled (like predatory hackers and the internet are now), there is no retrieving the wholesomeness of what it could have been if it had never been attacked. In other words, now that it sucks, it's always gonna suck. We will never be free of someone who has some way of making it a fucked-up, unpleasant experience. I think that fucking with the computer's sanctity and security should be punishable by execution. You're a hacker? You die by firing squad. You write and distribute viruses? You die by firing squad. You defrauded someone by luring them to a fake website and got their bank account numbers? You die by firing squad. If you don't agree, tell me HOW ELSE are we going to make using the internet proof against getting a gaping hole gouged out of your ass by these thieves, scoundrels and scumbags?? --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... You die by firing squad Sweet... send the firing squad after about 30% of the DZ.commers. How do you think that troubleshooting is done on software? Break it apart and see where the error is. How do you best defend against hackers? Be one yourself and try to hack yourself. Viruses are also sometimes called distributed installation or remote access programs. Companies like Microsoft (SMS), Altaris, Symantec (pcAnywhere), Radmin... they all sell software to do those same things. Its the user that determines how something is used. We can take the discussion to Speakers fourm but a computer is just like a gun, its all in how the user uses it determines if its a tool for good or a tool for bad.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

PhillyKev 0 #33 August 6, 2004 TCP/IP, the protocol used on the internet was designed by the military with one main purpose. To allow communication as reliably as possible. Not secure communication, not accurate communication, just communication. The idea was that we would have it, the enemy wouldn't and it would be a robust means of communication on the battlefield that would tolerate cut lines, etc. Because of that design, it WANTS to let other people send you whatever they want. People need to take their own steps to protect their computers. I've gotten spyware, I even got a virus once. But I still blame myself and other who don't take the proper security measures for the problems with this kind of thing. If people didn't leave themselves vulnerable, they wouldn't have a problem.
