What kind of jumsuit to buy?

Guys I need some advice...
though I am not yet an experienced jumper, I was gonna buy myself a nice jumpsuit for my 22nd birthday next month.
What kind do you suggest I buy?
(And don't give me any crap about how I should wait till I'm more experienced, because I hate student jumpsuits...they are very uncomfortable and unflattering!)
My goal is freeflying, but since that's way in the future, should I just get a regular, fitted jumpsuit?

First of all you need to look at what you want to do, you note freeflying but do you want to do belly as well. Are you going to be vertically challenged and need a smaller or bigger jumpsuit? There are a number of nice combination or middle of the road jumpsuits out there that will give good all around performance. I say get a middle of the road suit since you may still be wanted to explore different aspects of jumping while not buying multiple different suits.

Another suggestion is to look to get an off the rack suit from a manufacturer. It will generally cost less and will fit much better then a student suit. I have always had great luck with Body Sport. I know the owner and he is a great guy with a very nice product.
If you give them a call or look on line you will get lots of info and may be able to find a good suit that fits your needs.....

If your goal is freeflying, my advice would be to buy a freefly suit made for you, specially. Then, buy a used belly-suit if you can find one that fits OK. I have both. I knew the suit-maker so I got my belly-suit for free since a girl my size had ordered it and then didn't want it. But, I am so happy that happened, b/c if I had bought one it would have been a big waste. I 90% freefly (the other 10% is usually tracking) and I wear my freefly suit for both. Either that, or no suit at all; it's so hot in the summer here, so mostly I freefly sans suit and go for board shorts and a tank. It doesn't seem to hurt my flying any, but for some people it would, just b/c they need the extra drag or whatever.

how about just a pair of freefly pants until you know how fast/slow you fall while freeflying and then can get a suit to suit your needs?

First of all, who the heck would tell you to wait till your more experienced to buy a suit? I bought mine after my 2nd Aff jump. If you're going to be flying belly and freefly, I say you buy a Freefly Space Suit with flat shoulder grips and flat leg grips for RW work. That's what I'm using now. I use a freefly suit cuz I fall like a mother#@$! The baggy suit gives me the parasitic drag that I need to slow my fat ass down and the grips work great for formation diving. If you really want to be anal about it, try out suit from your gear store. If you're renting gear from a gear store, they usually allow you to borrow a freefly suit or an RW suit, at least that's what they do at the gear store at my DZ.

I'm going to be old fashioned and make an unpopular statement. Regardless of what type of skydiving you end up doing most of the time, its important to develop some basic belly flying skills- more than what AFF will teach you. When you are flying on your belly, and properly fitting RW suit designed for your needs is important. Ask your jumpmasters what you need in a jump suit. They know whether you fall fast or slow and should be able to point you in the right direction, but I would strongly suggest an RW suit as your first suit.

And yes, its nice to have a really cool looking jumpsuit, but its even better to have one that compliments your flying instead of the other way around.

Might wanna wait at least until you know if you fall too fast or too slow. A freefly suit might work great for RW for a heavier person that needs a baggy jumpsuit anyway, but would really be a detriment to a slower falling jumper that needs all the speed they can get. Actually a baggy freefly suit is not necessarily the answer for a newer jumper who falls too fast on their belly. They tend to make them floaty and out of control. Personally, I think a loose fit (but not baggy) with a heavier material and swoop cords is a better answer. Swoop cords aren't perfect and they're no substitute for learning to fly your body, but at least they will give a more defined wing. The wrong suit can really hinder a newer jumper's progress.

I got a 2-pc ff suit from Ouragan suits (www.ouragansuits.com), Nancy is a doll and she made it very nice and feminine for me. She will do ANYthing you can draw. I live in S. Fla and wear the top about 2 months max out of the year. It is hot here, so i'm glad I have the option to just wear the pants.

I've also seen pictures of Firefly suits and they are nice as well, although (i've heard) might take a little longer.

I never bought a belly suit. I'm glad I didn't waste my $$ on that. Buy a suit for what you plan to do! If you want to do belly, buy a belly suit. If you want to freefly, buy a freefly suit.

There you have it. Those are the factors for you to consider. Ask your gear store if they let you demo jump suits and then you can get a feel for what type of jumpsuit works for you. Unfortunately, I'm a short pudgy bastard so they never had anything in my size.
