Cypres 2

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, my 4 year cypres service is due. I live in england, but am jumping in spain in six weeks.
Is it possible to remove a cypres oneself(i have no rigger qualifications) and send it and then get just the one reserve pack. Or do i have to pay a rigger to take it out pack my reserve, and then pay another six weeks later to put it in again??

thanks

Normally you'd take it to the rigger who packed your reserve originally. I'm not 100% sure on British regulations but in Canada and the USA the rigger who sealed the reserve could uninstall and re-close without having to do a complete repack. Otherwise maybe you could have a repack done and then have the serviced AAD re-installed avoiding the second repack.

In any event if you are not a rigger and are not experienced in such things it's probably not a good idea to open it up.

Thats a direct copy from the cypres 2 manual.

You have a 13 month window to send it in for its 4 year service. So, if it the DOM was this month, you can just have it serviced when you get back in 6 weeks.

Atleast thats how I read it.

Yes in the UK the original rigger/reserve re-packer can open and re-close the rig normally without the need of a full repack.

If you've never opened a reserve container, it is a relatively easy procedure to do in order to remove the AAD. However I doubt the original rigger /packer will re-close the container if they had no access to it in the first place. If you feel you have to remove the AAD by yourself then be careful of the reserve lines on the velcro! (they can snag easily)

If in doubt ask a rigger/reserve packer. Where do you jump in the UK. I maybe able to put you in contact with someone if you rigger/packer is not available.

Hope this helps,

I dont fancy jumping without an AAD, I just want to send it off and then get Colin at empuria to do my reserve pack!

Cheers

if you will be jumping in Spain, you will need an AAD. Colin should have a Cypres for rent while you need.

that's doable, but just remember the spring of your reserve PC will be BIG to travel with :)

maybe ask a rigger friend to help you out with a temporary compression of the PC, or even to show you/let you do under supervision the whole AAD retrieval process.

and don't pull on anything
