Prolly looked like you worked all day at Valvoline Instant Oil Change after the jump! Y'know, I don't think I was able to hang on long enough to look like that! CSpenceFLY 1 #27 March 1, 2005 I've been jumping 6yrs and I know there has not been one here in that time.Does anyone know?
kelel01 1 #28 March 1, 2005 I don't know the answer to your question, but I have one for you. Is there going to be a license requirement for DC-3 jumps? Or . . . Could someone tell me what a DC-3 is? I think I'm thinking of a DC-9.
PhreeZone 15 #29 March 1, 2005 DC-3. The plane that you see in the 30's movies as commercial airplanes. That and the plane that you see in old war movies that the Paratroops jump from. Really small side door usually. http://www.centercomp.com/dc3/gallery/collections/Neil_R/DC36.jpgYesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
BillyVance 34 #30 March 1, 2005 If there had been a DC-3 in the last 6 years, I would have known about it. Never heard of any used for skydiving in the state since I've been jumping. Come to think of it, I remember visiting the old Skydive Atlanta DZ when it was at the Covington airport, and I noticed two DC-3's sitting on the tarmac. They looked like they hadn't been flown in some time, but they did have cargo doors. Any chance one of them could be bought and refurbished and used for skydiving? I know, it requires DEEP pockets of cash."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
kelel01 1 #31 March 1, 2005 Is the answer "never"? If so, that was a trick question. If not, then again, I have no idea.

jumpnrandy 0 #34 March 1, 2005 Chris, The last time I can think of is in '97. That was at the original SkydiveDive Atlanta in Ellijay, GA. Its fun to jump but takes a LONG time to get to allitude. RC edit for spelling
chaoskitty 0 #35 March 1, 2005 The page is way out of date, but there are pics of Mr. Douglas on This page. You can see how many jumpers it holds from the inside pics. He now sits on the tarmac in Tullahoma with no engines.
CSpenceFLY 1 #36 March 1, 2005 Thanks Randy, Hmmm...that would be the same year that two Casas were in Ga together.Only 16 days to go.
gmanpilot 0 #37 March 1, 2005 QuoteCould someone tell me what a DC-3 is? It's a big, slow-ass plane with with a small door and radial engines that shit oil on your jumpsuit. It had to take off 30 minutes before the other planes during the 300 way attempts at SDC, we all brought pillows and a book to read for the climb to altitude. Bitchin' swoops though._________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

stl135 0 #39 March 1, 2005 All right, Chris let the cat out of the bag...Chris is working on the final details, so it's not confirmed, yet. But, for those in need to satisfy their curiosity is the Southern Cross. Some of you may know, that the SO.Cross is the fastest DC-3. Southern Cross will take 40 jumpers to altitude, you can actually stand-up in it (if you are 6' or less) etc...It's a vintage aircraft, it's a novelty, especially for those new to the sport. CSpenceFLY 1 #40 March 1, 2005 Well Vic hit the nail on the head.It is the Southern Cross. It is being inspected right now and barring any setbacks it will be in Dublin the weekend before the boogie starts. So all you people that have never jumped a DC-3,stay tuned, buy your case of beer(I like Heineken)and start making plans to be in Dublin. hisgoofyness 0 #48 March 1, 2005 You guys are going to break me... I think I am going to have to get a 2nd mortgage just to have the kind of fun I anticipate in Dublin... Any good corners to work in Dublin? Surely there is somebody out there that desires a poor white trash skydiver from Suck Creek, TN... Goudha is for Buddha, and that's good enough for me!
