Have you fit a 170 in a Wings W8?

Recommended Posts

I have a Sabre2 170 and am looking at a Wings W8. I was curious if anyone has made that setup or an equivalent one work.

Right on, thanks... the good people at Wings just got back to me a little while ago too saying they didn't think that it would fit, but haven't tried it.

I think they changed their sizing at some point - you might want to contact the manufacturer with the serial number and ask what will fit. I have a W12-1, and they told me it would fit a 170 tight, 150, or 135 loose with 160 reserve. It actually fit 170 VERY tight, 150-132 pretty nicely, and 117 loose.

In general I wouldn't try putting something larger than manufacturer recommended into a Wings. I have packed a 150 into a W8 and would definitely not want to put anything larger in it.

I use to jump a W8 with a Spectre 135 and it fit just right, I dont think it would really be worth your time and effort trying to cram a canopy into a container that wasnt meant to hold it. I think you would just be putting to much wear on your canopy and container because you might have to stand on top of it to close it. Unless maybe your sabre has 1000 jumps on it and is nicely broken in..... then you might have a chance. As for there being a size change with Wings I think the only thing they are changing is adding a -1,or -2 to make the main container smaller to allow for smaller mains and same size reserves. I always just call Sunrise, Im sure they will give you a strait answer.

Im gonna need a bigger hammer....

Thanks for getting back to me everyone. I appreciate all the responses.
I think I'll reconsider now that I know a bit more.

I had a Silhouette 170 crammed in mine while I was waiting for my canopy to be delivered. That is a hybrid ZP/F-111 canopy and it was a nightmare to get in there. Would not recommend it and I doubt that a Sabre 2 would even fit at all.
Less talking, more flying.
