councilman24 36 #5 January 9, 2009 Another thread here somewhere links to a site describing a GPS system that include a becon and manual joy stick override mode. I can see a tanker having a receiver for delivery of critical supplies.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
riggerrob 558 #6 January 9, 2009 Several different companies have marketed similar systems since the early 1980s. Little electric winches pull on the control lines. Those winches are commanded by a radio, which may include GPS. Early systems required a ground operator to watch the parachute and steer it towards the target via radio (similar to a radio-controlled model airplane). More recent systems (eg. MMYST) pre-program GPS coordinates into the autopilot, which flies itself to the target.
