skymama 35 #1 September 29, 2004 Ok, this is what I have on my computer already: Spybot Ad-aware SE Black Ice Norton anti-virus 2005 Google Pop-up Blocker The Spyware I can't get rid of is called VX2. Spybot and Ad-aware both say they have quarantined it, but after rebooting and a few minutes on the computer, it comes back and I get pop-ups. It also hijacks anytime I try to use the "copy shortcut" feature on this site. I ran ad-aware last night, was on the computer for 10 minutes, ran it again this morning and there were 122 new bad things detected! Any help would be greatly appreciated! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
sunshine 2 #2 September 29, 2004 What you need is Michael. Seriously, when it gets to such a point, you need to just give the machine to a computer geek genius to get that crap off. I can usually fix anything on my puter with Phreezone talking me through it, but i got spyware crap sooo bad a few months ago, there was nothing he could do over the phone. Thank god michael fixed me up. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!

Guest #5 September 29, 2004 You could also try booting into safe mode then running your cleaners again. Some scumwares are smart enough to know when they're being looked for and hide themselves from registry sweeps. mh .

ChasingBlueSky 0 #8 September 29, 2004 btw - make sure you have the latest update on Black Ice. There was a decent hole that was found in it, and has been patched by the company._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Sometimes just killing off the process and then running AdAware will work...but you have to know the processess....kill the wrong one and the system could reboot or crash. If you are a good geek, use HiJackThis. A great little program to get rid of BHOs and the like. BTW - There is some debate as to WildTangent if they are spyware or not. AdAware and Search&Destroy removes it, but it is now packaged with AIM. The designer is a former MS guy that created DirectX, so it is hard to say._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... He told me not to use it on my own (he knows me well! ). It didn't work. I'm going to try the instructions that HH gave me in a bit. miked10270 0 #15 September 30, 2004 Hi Andrea, If you have Spybot, and I'm guessing it's up to date (16th Sept 2004), then have you "immunized"? Also, you should have Javacool's "SpyWareBlaster" installed, up to date (27th Sept 2004). Get it at: [urlhttp://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html[/url] Regards, Mike. Shawndiver 0 #16 September 30, 2004 You might want to also try Spy Sweeper, there is a free version available and it found and removed all sorts of stuff that AdAware did not detect. It has gotten great reviews both on the web and in this forum as well! http://www.spysweeper.com/_________________
Racenic 0 #17 September 30, 2004 Sometimes with this type of spyware/adware it's a program that must be un-installed. Go to your hard drive and open up your Program files folder. look for a folder titled VX2 and open that folder see if there is an icon titled un-install. click on the to run the un-install program for this and it should remove everything. Shawndiver 0 #19 September 30, 2004 It removes also! You have one free spyware update when you download the trial version, after that they want you to subscribe to receive updates._________________
skymama 35 #20 September 30, 2004 Well, I just used that. It took an hour for it to go through everything and it found 111 items, even though I had just scanned with Spybot and rebooted. It also told me I have Spyware running in memory. The only problem is that it froze up once it got to removing 99% of everything. I closed it out and came to check the forums. I've gotten 2 pop-ups in 5 minutes.
